Running shoe jargon can be very confusing and befuddling. 'Carbon' this and 'drop' that. It's the one thing my runners ask me about the most. To help make things simpler I've written a guide on what to look out for when buying new running shoes. https://lnkd.in/edrJz9mg #running #runningshoes

Doubled (maybe even tripled ) down on shoe testing this season. Here's my latest for GearJunkie, an update on our Winter Running Shoes Buyer's Guide. Some key takeaways: 🐥 Arc'teryx Equipment's Norvan 3 GTX sneakily became my favorite waterproof shoe of the season. They have drawbacks (too narrow for long runs, high price point) but the balance of moderate lugs and breathability make them a perfect all-terrain vehicle. Also, the purple colorway is killer. 🔥 Sub 15 ℉ I'm going with the Nike Pegasus Shield. Robust insulation, solid traction, but lower on the breathability scale 🪨 I usually love the Brooks Running fit (ran in exclusively the Ghost and Cascadia for years) but the updated midsole on the Cascadia 17 makes it a non-starter on pavement. Way too firm. In fairness, it is a trail shoe, but it's gone from my running quiver to my hiking quiver where the GTX and grip can excel and the midsole is less of an issue. More here (and thanks again to Mammoth Lakes Tourism for hosting me while I scrambled for some late season snowpack to try these in) https://lnkd.in/ekGzJagM

I need some new book ideas! Who has recommendations for books related to running, sports, business, or product management? I keep finding myself saying things like "I was never a...." and reader is absolutely one of those. Until I started with SSi People... Manny Vidal recommended a few of these to me when he heard I was running a marathon and now I genuinely look forward to time at night reading instead of staring at my phone. Shoe Dog - Getting into the mind of Phil Knight right before my first trip to Beaverton put a lot into perspective about Nike, it's culture, and the history of the footwear biz. Ultramarathon Man - Let's call a spade a spade here. Dean Karnazes is a freak of nature, but it's a true reminder that the human body can do great things if you let it. Whether that be having a pizza delivered mid 150+ mile run from Sonoma to Santa Cruz or your first 5k, you can do it. I can honestly say this book helped me mentally get through both of my legs being lifeless corpses at mile 23 of the Cape Cod Marathon this year. Born to Run - I eat more chia seeds now? And, no, I'm not wearing minimalist shoes. Marathon - I followed Hal Higdon's Marathon training plan to the mile for Cape Cod and it worked out well for me. Really great read for anyone looking to hone in their training and food plans before a big race. Running With Purpose - Protect your mote! Great read on business and the running industry boom that Brooks took advantage of. If you're starting on a running journey, you can't go wrong with a Brooks Running Ghost or Adrenaline. I'm no shoe expert, but I have been through 10 pairs of them. They are like an old trusty friend. The Genius of Athletes - If you read one chapter in this book read Chapter 5 on Self-Confidence. Also pictured, my Black Friday fuel haul from The Feed. That should last me through this marathon build to Hilton Head in February. #keeprunning #running

The New York Times recently spotlighted the subculture of premium running brands and niche running crews redefining today’s running world. When the mainstream catches on, does it signal the trend’s peak—or give it momentum? Typically, mainstream media attention suggests a trend’s move from early adopters to the early majority. In other words, the trend has not peaked, but it is near. In this instance, I expect running crews to continue influencing the edgy side of running culture. However, at some point, consumer fatigue with high prices may kick in. My take on where this might evolve next? More DIY apparel—think custom pieces, runner-modified gear, and performance apparel infused with art and style. Definitely something to keep an eye on! #running #apparel #footwear #RunningCulture #BrandTrends #PerformanceApparel #TrendForecast https://buff.ly/4fGPmse
