Caption this photo of two organic legends… David Weinstein's words in response to Dick being announced as OGS 2024 Grower of the Year: “It is obviously well deserved and reflects well on the organization that they recognize someone who has given so much to the growth of the organic trade.” Dick’s contribution, his vision, his imagination, his courage was to be among the first, if not the very first, to commit to farming organically at commercial scale in his area. Nobody else committed to a full line of organic vegetables in volume in his area before him. His commitment showed others the way. His courage inspired others. His sheer dogged persistence enabled others, growers, distributors, retailers, to succeed. How many of us have sat down for dinner and eaten what he grew? It has always been about the work. About boots on the ground. Doing what had to be done. Every day. And the next day. And the next. It’s nice to see that kind of faithfulness rewarded."
