Limoneira Company’s Post

In the 1940s, Limoneira developed an exceptional variety of lemons, the Limco 8A, which was cultivated in our Olivelands 8-A Orchard. This particular lemon exhibits greater resistance to disease, yields more fruit, is high in quality, and has an extended shelf life. The Limco 8A remains one of the standard bearers in global lemon production. At Limoneira, innovation drives our mission to deliver the very best in citrus.

The Limoneira 8A variety has unquestionably left its mark on the lemon industry. For many decades it has been one of the most preferred varietals planted in California due to its productivity and shipping qualities. What few people know or remember is it was actually discovered in block 8B but in the registration process it was mislabeled as 8A. Where it was originally found is of less importance than the fact it was discovered. Its impact on the industry continues to this day.

Lim 8A and 8B were excellent trees. They were also on "old line" rootstocks, and that made a difference in how smooth texture was, and there was less wind scar. Excellent quality!

Agreed Pete. 8A is the most consistent productive lemon.
