The continuous journey of learning and unlearning as Agriprenuer has been both challenging and rewarding. Last year, Jeyie Foods management took a significant step by incorporating fortified maize as a primary ingredient in our porridge flour. Despite setbacks like Cyclone Freddy disrupting our harvest, we persevered. This year, we've mitigated risks by sourcing farmers from different villages and planting some in my own garden. Today marks the first harvest of the year from my backyard garden– pure organic, without any synthetic fertilizers, cultivated using permaculture techniques. At Jeyie Foods, our commitment to organic farming extends from the field to our processing methods. Back to Share my Learnings of This Week on Organic Farming! 🌱 🌱 Self-Pollination vs. Bee Pollination: Why It Matters 🐝 Did you know that 75% of the world’s top 100 food crops depend on animal pollination, mostly by bees? 🐝 While self-pollination can be reliable, it often results in up to 50% less genetic diversity in plants. 🌾 Bee pollination, however, can increase crop yields by 24% to 70%, depending on the crop, and is vital for maintaining a healthy ecosystem. 🌍 Beekeeping is affordable and requires minimal space—just a 2x2 meter area can host a hive that supports local pollination. 🐝✨ By promoting beekeeping and protecting pollinators, we can help secure food production and sustain our environment. 🌸 This week has been full of valuable insights and knowledge, all thanks to the incredible session arranged by Madhu Chandan SC, the OG and CEO of Organic Mandya.
