One of my favourite events of the year at Rakuten.ca. In today's fast-paced, technology-driven world, it's easy to get caught up in metrics, deadlines, and deliverables. But let's not forget the most crucial element of any successful organization: the people. Humanizing your team isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a must-have. Here's why: Boosts Morale and Engagement: When team members feel seen and valued as individuals, their motivation and engagement levels soar. They’re more likely to go the extra mile and contribute their best work. Fosters Innovation: A culture that celebrates diverse perspectives and encourages open communication leads to creative problem-solving and innovation. When people feel safe to express their ideas, magic happens. Builds Trust and Loyalty: Trust is the foundation of any strong team. By showing genuine care and empathy, leaders can build lasting relationships that withstand challenges and change. Enhances Collaboration: Humanized teams are more cohesive. When people understand and respect each other’s strengths and weaknesses, collaboration becomes seamless and more effective. Improves Well-being: A supportive and understanding work environment contributes to the overall well-being of team members. This not only reduces stress but also promotes a healthier work-life balance. Remember, at the heart of every successful project, every innovative idea, and every milestone achieved, are people. Let’s make sure we’re not just managing teams, but truly leading and humanizing them. #Leadership #TeamBuilding #HumanizeYourTeam #WorkplaceCulture #EmployeeEngagement #EmpathyInLeadership
Yesterday, our team AND their families gathered at Earl Bales Park for what we like to call a Day-O-Fun! This annual event is one of our favourites of the year as we not only get to bond as a team, but we get to know their families as well.

This video by Liz Pemberton is compelling! It aligns closely with the work we do at Musicbuds; aiming to deepen the DEI awareness of all educators and caregivers of young children. It passionately emphasises that anti-racism begins with us - the adults shaping children’s earliest experiences. She advocates for proactive steps to instil values of respect and belonging, not just in young learners, but in ourselves too. The video spotlights key concepts like tolerance, acceptance, and unconscious bias, revealing how small, everyday actions can unintentionally reinforce injustice. By recognising and understanding these challenges, we can drive meaningful change toward a more inclusive environment. As Liz advises: “𝗗𝗲-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀.” We can’t go wrong if we start here! #EarlyYearsEducation #DiversityEquityInclusion #AntiRacism #InclusiveEducation

We recently shared Liz Pemberton's 4 Es framework with our first-year students studying as part of our Principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion degree module. This module forms the basis of a thread of equality and inclusion that runs through each module our students study and explores the meaning of these topics, the policies that underpin early years practice of #inclusion, how #diversity can be valued and celebrated, and how #EarlyYears practitioners can uphold the rights of children and families. Our Principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion #EarlyChildhood module was also recently explored in our Norland Unwrapped degree taster session with module lead Tara Nolty, exploring themes of the topic including identities, stigmas, bias and more. To find out more, you can watch our latest Norland Unwrapped session on our website. Link below 👇

I am a Palestinian business owner. Deal with it. I am proud to use our small business platform to stand up for justice. Asking for an end to an indiscriminate war on a civilian population isn't conditional on who's paying us or who may be uncomfortable with our beliefs. I believe in peace, in justice, in humanity, in a ceasefire. It's pretty simple. As a business owner, I am fully aware of the risk this poses – if only our company measured its success and worth by its bottom line, which we don't. We measure our company success by knowing who we are. We measure it by having solidarity for any member of our staff whose identity, people, community or self expression are threatened or at risk. I am particularly aware of the bias that will be assumed in my position on the topic of Palestine. I also know what my progressive values are: uncompromising, especially in this moment. Excessive and disproportionate use of power, in any circumstance, needs to be called out. Independence in this case means the above views are my own... AND MY COMPANY'S. ✊
Macklemore’s latest song, “Hind’s Hall,” minces no words about the United States’ complicity in the genocide in Palestine and the power of youth-led protests. It’s gained over 20 million streams on Spotify, with all proceeds going to UNRWA USA. Content like this stands out because Macklemore did his research, and is unafraid to speak the truth. While universities cower in the face of donors threatening to pull funding, and American-Israel PAC donations sway elected officials, part of the key is that Macklemore is an independent artist — his message isn’t dictated by a corporate label. “Hind’s Hall” rings out in defiance of wealth-imposed silence. This one line says it all: “The problem isn’t the protests; it’s what they’re protesting.” Ask yourself: How often does money shape the stories you hear, and those you don’t? Tango Charities - #FeedTheCity is one of our favorite organizations to serve with! The event is seamlessly cooridanted by passionate community volunteers like you and me, and you can get involved super easy at the link below in an event/packing group near you. My favorite story of #impact was one of my first packing sessions. I remember the host of the event telling a story of a young kid in south Dallas. Incredibly smart, a scholarship shoe-in easy, only, he would intentionally fail HIS FAVORITE CLASS (math/algebra) each year, so that he could attend summer school for the (continued) free lunches... only he picked Math so he would at least enjoy school year round. 20%, or 1 in 5 Texas children experiences hunger. I don't know about you but as a native Texan, this is unacceptable to me. Hunger deprives kids of more than just food. According to Feeding America and many other organizations in the space of solving #foodinsecurities like #TangoCharities and Feed My Starving Children; kids who don’t get enough to eat — begin life at a serious disadvantage. FOOD IS THE FOUNDATION. For a healthy economy we need healthy minds, For healthy minds we need healthy foundations of food security. Not your average LinkedIn post but maybe that makes it actually better to share here than in my Instagram bubble? People say we are living in the Hunger Games and it’s scary how accurate this comparison is, seeing celebrities at the MET gala while Israel bombs and invades Rafah where refugees are too starved to flee the Israeli violence yet again. But it’s not just about the celebrities that could do so much more with all their fame and wealth (thank you Macklemore for showing what they could be doing instead). It’s also everyone else, all of us in a safe and privileged place allowing our government, universities and institutions to continue allowing Israel to basically wipe out Gaza. Many times this week I wondered: How do people go on with their daily life as if nothing is happening? But most of all I wondered: how do I? I feel so inspired by the brave students and staff in the US and now also in the Netherlands who are refusing to remain complicit. I couldn’t stop watching the news and the videos, especially as things escalated when pro-Israel counter-protesters came in with torches and riot police starting beating in on the student protesters leading to bloody headwounds. What world are we living in? How on earth is such violence being used against the people who are asking to stop the horrific violence in Gaza? And all the right-wing and extreme-right politicians suddenly caring about anti-semitism and trying to delegitimize the protests with that, completely dismissing all the Jewish activists standing up for Palestine. I am privileged to have a job fighting for justice - and climate justice is related to justice for Palestine as well as standing up against police violence. But this week it felt unimportant and like a wrong kind of escapism. People are saying this is like the Vietnam war protests, the time to stand up, speak up and actually disrupt normal life because there is nothing normal about 40,000 people killed, 80% of buildings demolished, mass graves, doctors tortured to death, and this all with the financial, military and political support from many Western countries and institutions. This week I found myself wanting to be in Amsterdam for the protests to at least feel like I was doing something because shouldn’t we all be doing something? Not everyone is a protest person and I for sure am not cut out for direct action or confrontational situations but I believe everyone can contribute in a way that fits them. I am still processing and figuring out what this looks like for me but I guess writing some of this out is a first step. If you are also trying to figure it out feel free to message me and maybe we can figure it out together. In the meantime some easy things to do are: inform yourself, donate to Palestinian organisations like Plant an Olive Tree, join the Nakba day protest on Saturday in Amsterdam. https://lnkd.in/e-eYnYMu
