Today’s top tip from Corten Editorial Please take note supermarkets and Alexander Armstrong on Pointless: * Use “fewer” when referring to countable nouns (i.e. things generally measured in whole numbers). * Use “less” when referring to uncountable nouns or things measured by volume. For example, “less water” but “fewer raindrops”.

In the Facebook group The Language Nerds, someone posted, 'The amount of people who confuse "too" and "to" is amazing to me."' I commented, 'The number of people who confuse "amount" (amount of apple sauce) with "number" (number of apples) is amazing to me.'
