How do you get Silicon Valley techies and suited bureaucrats to work together? For Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and the visionary behind Aadhaar, it was making a public promise that seemed impossible. As chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India, Nilekani spearheaded the creation of Aadhaar, the world’s largest biometric ID system. “Within a month of joining, I said, ‘We will achieve 600 million unique IDs by the time I step down,’ and people thought I was crazy. In government, you don’t make commitments like that. It sounded outrageous and implausible," Nilekani said. But this goal galvanized his team, and everyone came together to make it happen. Today, Aadhaar has reached over 1.3 billion people in India. How do you motivate your team? Share your thoughts in the comments below! President Kennedy set an ambitious goal upon assuming office. "Put a man on the moon!" NASA delivered in less than a decade. This opened up new opportunities for the advancement of space exploration and astronomy till this day. Visionary leaders can drive impactful change and progress. Thank you for sharing.

1wMotivation is the fuel that drives every great achievement. It’s not just about hitting targets; it’s about igniting a shared sense of purpose. Nandan Nilekani’s story is a testament to the power of a bold vision. His “outrageous” promise didn’t just set a goal—it created belief, urgency, and alignment within his team. People want to know that their work matters and that they’re part of something bigger than themselves. Pair that with trust, recognition, and consistent communication; you’ve got the ingredients for a team that feels unstoppable. When a leader sets a compelling vision, no matter how ambitious, it inspires people to stretch beyond what they thought was possible. And very often...they do just that!
