I visited one of my favorite cities (and my birthplace!) today for the The Future of Work conference in London. When people of different backgrounds come together to talk about a common cause, it’s amazing how quickly we can connect on common principles and values. We are far more similar than we are different in this world across borders and sectors and industries and backgrounds. Here are a few takeaways from our panel discussion: ✍️ the future of work is hybrid. Whatever the stated policy might be, people are looking for flexibility to balance their life and work demands. Leaders need to be ready to lead with more agility and use good judgment, and spend the time with their people to understand the unique situations people are in. Only then can we create the conditions for people to perform at their best. Aaisha Knights - Ihediwa FCIPD ✍️ the future of work is helping people thrive fully. People are struggling and when we do, it comes at a cost to companies. Paying attention and focusing on self management and leadership is nearly as important as leading others. Companies should prioritize this, as the context we exist in outside of work does impact our performance inside the workplace. Abigail Wilmore (FCIPD) Founder and CEO, People Flow ✍️ the future of work is global and complex. We cannot shield a company from outside forces — global events, generational shifts, requirements to collaborate across difference — they will be a competitive advantage if a company can do it well. And this requires leading with more openness and empathy. Mariah Danielle Jaquelin Pedersen And finally, the future of work is human-centric because it will be the human edge that enables performance. Which means we need human beings to perform at their best, and leaders and cultures that create the conditions to do so. That’s why I started idealis. — it’s what motivates our team to do what we do. Such a great discussion, thank you Verity Weedon for the opportunity! #humanityatwork
