So brilliant to hear the knowledge and wisdom of Amber Delaney yesterday. She very kindly came to Baringa to talk to us at the Neurodiversity network about the changes in the legal definition of dyslexia and key things to consider about how it impacts colleagues at work as well as family and friends. Some thought-provoking takeaways included: ⭐The power of big visuals and the physical space - in this world of virtual meetings can we seek opportunities to try wall charts, pictures, colours etc to help unlock the power of the dyslexic brain. ⭐Co-occurrence as the rule rather than the exception - with ADHD, dyscalculia, DCD and DLD very likely to occur alongside dyslexia, we need to remember not to put someone with dyslexia in a stereotyped box that this is 'just about reading and writing', there may be other traits, strengths and challenges in play. ⭐The sobering mental health implications - emotional regulation comes at a higher price for our neurodivergent colleagues - bad days can be magnified for ND brains as much as the good days. ⭐The power of rehearsals - giving dyslexic colleagues the space and opportunity to practice first with a trusted person could be a simple but effective approach so they can give the best representation of themselves. ⭐Not always expecting 'on the spot' thinking - rather than reverting to the 'let's whiteboard it' culture (so endemic in consulting), can we proactively ask if a colleague would prefer to go away and think about it first? Thanks Amber for the inspiring talk and to my Baringa colleagues for helping this event happen Jodie Watts Anish Amin Amber Madden-Nadeau Philippa Hewitson Zoe Latimer

In the quiet hours of the night, while many rest, the silent warriors of their dreams are wide awake, planning their next strategic move. This unusual hour for me, however, is colored with anticipation – not from pouring over financial strategies, but from a day filled with progress towards a mental health and financial education center dream in my country of origin. Has your passion project ever kept you up at night? #PassionProjects #HealthcareInnovation

In today's fast-paced, digital world, providing children with tools to navigate their emotions is crucial. Journaling is one such powerful tool that can provide stability and a healthy coping mechanism for everyday challenges. Journaling as a Safe Space: Journaling offers kids a private, judgment-free zone to express their thoughts, dreams, and worries. This therapeutic practice helps them process feelings and gain clarity. Emotional Expression and Regulation: Writing helps kids articulate their emotions, enhancing emotional regulation and reducing anxiety and stress. Boosting Creativity and Imagination: Journaling is also a great outlet for creativity, sparking imagination and boosting creative thinking skills. Empowering Choice and Ownership: Allowing kids to pick their own journals makes the experience personal and empowering, making writing feel special. #mentalhealth #childdevelopment #emotionalhealth #parenting

Day 92: Kaelo’s First Reading Today, I received a heartwarming video from Kaelo’s mom, showing her 6-year-old reading The World Inside My Brain 📖. Watching him engage with the book was a beautiful reminder of why we created it—to reach children everywhere and help them explore their inner worlds. While the book was inspired by neurodivergence, its message goes beyond that. The World Inside My Brain offers valuable lessons for all children, neurodivergent or not. It teaches self-awareness, empathy, and emotional resilience, helping kids understand their feelings and the minds of those around them. 🌍 By fostering these skills, every child—no matter their background—can learn to navigate their emotions, connect with others, and embrace their uniqueness. We hope that many more children, like Kaelo, will find joy and comfort in reading this book. It's a tool for growth and understanding that benefits everyone, opening up conversations about mental wellness and the beauty of our differences. 🌟 #TheWorldInsideMyBrain
