Pioneering Cash Transfers: Transforming Lives: Did you know that Adeso was the first CSO to pioneer cash transfers in the humanitarian context? In 2003, Adeso boldly defied the status quo by implementing one of the first large-scale cash transfer programs in Somalia. This innovative approach revolutionized humanitarian aid by directly empowering families to meet their basic needs and invest in their futures. Not only did Adeso become a pioneer in Somalia, but our visionary leadership paved the way for the wider adoption of cash transfers across the globe, transforming the way we deliver aid. Check out this great article: 'Five Lessons Learned from Adeso's 2 Decades of Experience with Cash-Based Interventions. Over 1 million people have been newly displaced by the conflict in #Lebanon. Many had to flee their homes with nothing - so they need healthcare, food, basic assistance, and emergency shelter. Communities hosting them also need extra support. Acting Emergency Relief Coordinator (ERC) Joyce Msuya has allocated $10 million from the United Nations OCHA-managed Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to urgently respond to conflict-related needs in Lebanon. This CERF funding, complementing a $10 million allocation from OCHA's Lebanon Humanitarian Fund, will enable humanitarian partners to scale up critical activities and replenish depleted supplies for immediate distribution. I've been closely following the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the devastating humanitarian crisis it has triggered. The numbers are beyond alarming—they're a call to action. As of now, 5 million people teeter on the brink of famine, and 17.7 million are grappling with acute food insecurity. In Darfur alone, 220,000 malnourished children face the stark reality of death in the coming weeks (UNFPA Sudan Emergency Report, May 27th, 2024). Faced with this heart-wrenching situation, I reached out to World Vision Sudan. Despite having to close their office and operate remotely due to the conflict, they are still tirelessly working to provide aid. Yet, the aid raised so far is critically low, with only 15.8% of the budget met, as per the latest reports (https://lnkd.in/du3xF66w). After doing the math, we found that it costs just $205 per month to feed a household, plus $15 for logistics—a total of $220. These families and children are innocent victims of a crisis they did not create. I am reaching out to you because we can bring hope and relief to our brothers and sisters together, even to put food on their table. We are one tribe the human tribe. We cannot stand by and let them die of hunger. We must show them love. As Africans, let's respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters. And as a global community, let's unite to change their story. Only we can respond to their needs. It is time to shine the light. So, I ask you to donate and support even if picking just a family for a month or a daily meal: Every contribution counts. Donate Now. https://lnkd.in/dzrmwwDS PAYBILL: 891300 ACCOUNT: 97666 Together, we can make a difference. 4SUDAN, WE STAND WITH SUDAN.

February 24th marked two years since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the humanitarian crisis persists, demanding a strategic and adaptive response. The UN reports that over 14.6 million people – about 40 percent of the Ukrainian population – still need humanitarian assistance. Thanks to the continued commitment of our clients and employees to Ukraine, we’ve mobilized USD 58.4 million for the Ukraine Relief Fund as of the end of 2023, committing USD 42 million to help 24 partners, such as Teach For Ukraine and Global Fund for Children, empower over 170 grassroots organizations to provide relief, recovery and resilience services. As we move into this third year, we’re doubling down on supporting mental health as Ukrainian families live with protracted trauma and prolonged uncertainty. We’re also focused on education continuity for children affected by the conflict. Small local organizations are the main target of support, to help build that sustainable resilience needed. Around 300 million people are currently dependent on #HumanitarianAid - more than ever before. The international community is facing this huge task, but the #FundingGap is enormous. The #EuropeanHumanitarianForum, which is taking place today and tomorrow in Brussels, is addressing this major problem. The forum’s objective is to explore ways of meeting the growing global need for humanitarian aid in the face of dwindling resources. Hansen Roland, head of our Africa department, is representing #MalteserInternational at the event to participate in the discussions about possible ways forward, like increased efficiency, more flexible funding, anticipatory humanitarian action, the linking of humanitarian aid, development and peace (HDP) and the involvement of the private sector. “Above all, however, more political action is needed to reduce the conflicts that are the main cause of people’s suffering. As Malteser International, we are supporting communities and people in need in many of the major crises and need donations to supplement shrinking public funds”, says Hansen. #EHF2024 #EHF #MalteserInternational
