SCOOP: The long-awaited LNG report will find that "unfettered" American exports will drive up domestic gas prices, pollute struggling communities and increase global greenhouse gas emissions. A letter from energy Sec. Jennifer Granholm, obtained by the Times, said the current pace of gas exports is "neither sustainable nor advisable." https://lnkd.in/g8gnvH26

"If the United States were to continue exporting liquefied natural gas in the way that has made it the world’s biggest gas supplier, it would drive up costs for American consumers and businesses, pollute struggling communities and increase global greenhouse gas emissions, according to a letter written by Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm that was obtained by The Times." https://lnkd.in/eT_uifs9

At the very least, the US is starting to recognize the impacts of fossil fuels on the economy in a direct manner (e.g., the increased cost of energy when we ship it overseas), but it sure would be nice if the media could also communicate the impacts of fossil fuels on the economy through billion dollar climate disasters. At least they admit that LNG won't displace coal anyway, but The New York Times embedded a fossil fuel lobby lie "That figure does not take into account that additional gas might displace dirtier fuels like coal." It is now widely known that LNG is dirtier than coal, due to the energy use to compress and ship the gas and the leaking and venting of gas all along the production and transportation route. They eventually get to those facts further down in the article, but how many people get to the bottom of the article? https://lnkd.in/g-SyBKqM

Has the future of America’s natural gas export boom been thrown into doubt? A federal government report published on Tuesday found that unbridled expansion would drive up costs for Americans and undermine climate goals. The long-awaited Department of Energy study said the rapid growth of the country’s liquefied natural gas sector might not be in the national interest, setting the stage for sweeping legal challenges that would hinder expansion just as Donald Trump takes office with a pledge to boost exports in pursuit of US energy dominance. The report also suggests that expanding LNG may not boost the energy security of the US and its allies but rather aid China. Proud to have helped Chairman Arrington and the bipartisan Energy Export Caucus co-chairs lead this letter urging the Department of Energy to expedite approvals of LNG export permit applications. LNG production is not only a job-creating boon for the American economy, but it’s also critical for the national security of our allies and a key source of energy that can help countries lower their carbon emissions. https://lnkd.in/eCnykasV

🌍 The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), through its Office of Fossil Energy & Carbon Management, has released the 2024 LNG Export Study, providing an in-depth analysis of the energy, economic, and environmental implications of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has cautioned against further "unfettered" exports, citing key concerns, including: 📊 Economic Impacts: Higher prices for U.S. households and consumers due to increased domestic natural gas costs. For Europe, this raises pressing questions. With half of our LNG coming from the U.S., we face not only high prices but also uncertainty in natural gas supply and delivery. Future tariffs could exacerbate these challenges. This highlights the urgent need for the EU to accelerate hashtag#REPowerEU initiatives, reducing dependency on gas for heating, industry, and power sectors. The report also outlines additional consequences of increased U.S. LNG exports: 🌎 Global Energy Security: Impacts on international energy markets and U.S. trading partners. 🌱 Environmental Considerations: Increased greenhouse gas emissions and effects on local communities. 🔗 Links below for further details. #EnergyTransition #LNGExports #ClimateAction #EnergyPolicy #USDOE European Commission

North Sea gas production is in decline, imports from the US are at risk (see post below). It's really time to move away from gas to heat our homes in the UK. Yes gas is cheap and the transition is tricky, but we urgently need to have a plan B. #RePowerUK #HeatNetwork #NoMoreWasteHeat #DecarboniseHeat

The legal block of the US ban on LNG export permits to non-FTA countries is a positive development for the #LNG market and for global energy security, emissions reduction, and affordability. As we highlighted in the released last week 2024 World LNG report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyyPhZGw , the ban has added to uncertainty in a tight market and could impact 70 mtpa of capacity. The US is the world’s largest LNG exporter, and has revolutionised the global gas market, supercharging its liberalisation by introducing great commercial flexibility in trade and contracts. The functioning of a flexible global gas market made it possible to keep the world’s energy system above water during the worst energy crisis in memory. Having open, flexible, transparent, competitive, and reliable gas markets is imperative to ensuring the success of the global energy transition and safeguarding international energy security, while markets provide the best counterbalance to the politicisation of energy supply. https://lnkd.in/eubkj6ay. #ongt Mel ( Menelaos) Ydreos, Tatiana Khanberg, Paddy Blewer, Neill Tannock, Canadian Gas Association, Didier Holleaux, Khaled Abubakr, Carlos Cortes Simon, Amir Foster, Marcel Kramer, Satoshi Yoshida, Mehdy Touil

Biden’s Pause on New LNG Export Permits Could Last for Months President Biden's decision to halt new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export permits has sparked a significant debate over the future of the U.S. energy sector. The pause, aimed at reassessing the environmental impact of such projects, is anticipated to endure for months, creating uncertainty within the industry. The move aligns with Biden's commitment to addressing climate change and transitioning towards cleaner energy alternatives. Critics argue that the pause could stifle economic growth and hinder the United States' position in the global energy market. LNG exports have played a pivotal role in bolstering the nation's energy independence and generating revenue through international trade. During this hiatus, industry stakeholders, environmental advocates, and policymakers are engaged in discussions to shape the future of LNG exports in the United States. The outcome of these deliberations will not only influence the energy landscape but also serve as a testament to the government's commitment to sustainable practices in the face of global climate challenges. #PGE301 #energy
