Last week, myself and Liam McDermott had the absolute pleasure in dining with Lord John Lytton, 5th Earl of Lytton, and Dr Laura Lintott FCIArb to discuss the shortcomings of the Building Safety Act in relation to leaseholders.
As some may be aware, not all leaseholdes are protected by the Act, namely those who own properties in blocks under 11m. This has affected property sales, mortgages, insurance and, in some instances, led to bankruptcy where unprotected leaseholders have been liable to pay for remedial works.
Lord Lytton has been actively raising / discussing these issues in parliament and has addressed potential solutions to protect all leaseholders.
For those who may not be aware, Lord Lytton introduced the Party Wall etc Bill to the House of Lords in 1996 which later became the Party Wall etc Act 1996.
We look forward to working with Lord Lytton to raise awareness of the many ongoing issues that leaseholders, and occupiers of blocks face, to help promote positive change.
