Instead of tossing out old garments, consider giving them a new lease on life through upcycling or donation. Upcycling is a fantastic way to get creative and transform old clothes into something new and unique. From turning jeans into stylish shorts to repurposing fabric for DIY projects, the possibilities are endless! It's not only fun but also reduces waste. Another great option is donation. By donating clothes you no longer wear, you can help someone in need while promoting a circular economy. Your unwanted items could be just what someone else is looking for. This post from Queensland Environment on Facebook presents these important questions we can ask ourselves before adding new items to your wardrobe: ✔ Do I need this item? ✔ Have I learned the basics of clothing care and repair? ✔ Could I get my clothes professionally altered to fit better? ✔ How can I restyle my existing clothing or home furnishings to extend their life? Have you tried upcycling or donating your clothes before? Check it out here: https://rpb.li/ub1G29 #SustainableFashion #Upcycling #ClothingDonation

Sustainability and home organising go hand in hand. Are you surprised? A lot of people are. One of the biggest misconceptions I face as a professional home organiser is that we all just want to throw things away, but that’s simply not true, if anything I do my absolute best to help clients find environmentally friendly ways to declutter sustainably, and here are just some of the things I encourage them to do. 💛 Donate their unwanted items to charity Whether that’s by taking them to the charity shop, by getting in touch with your local nursery or school, local men’s shed organisations or by visiting your local women’s shelter. 💛 Sell anything they can make a bit of money on Through the likes of Vinted, EBay and local antiquities dealers I’ve had clients sit on some amazing items over the years through guilt or thinking they may use something one day only to feel a new sense of freedom when they decide to let them go. 💛 Upcycle items to give them a new lease of life We’ve all seen the cute little planter wellies, and there’s no reason you can’t do the same. If something can’t be reused, donated or sold, can it be upcycled or donated as a craft project to a local school? 💛 Recycle Always consider how items can be recycled rather than put in the bin or taken to the skip, there are so many incredible companies offering recycling of old tech, furniture and gadgets. Skye here is a fabulous example of someone who has sustainability nailed and she loves organising the family charity donation bags. How important do you feel sustainability is in your day to day or in your job? I’ve love to know in the comments below, and be sure to share your favourite places to donate or recycle unwanted belongings! #sustainability #recycle #upcycle #homeinspo #environment #homeorganiser #decluttering #sustainableliving

Where does unused fabric go?🤔 Tons of fabric from production or unsold stock are often discarded. Many organizations and companies donate this excessive fabric to charities and non-profit initiatives. These fabrics are used in: ✨ Skill building (like sewing and craftsmanship) ✨ Fashion projects ✨ Humanitarian Aids (like bedding, clothing and different products for underserved areas) In third-world countries the role of this donation is 🟢 Creating employment in the textile sector 🟢 Social enterprises that uplift women and underrepresented groups 🟢 Upcycling practices. Although this discarded fabric creates a lot of opportunities But on the other side after the usage, it ends up in landfill. #sustainable #sustainability #recycling #fastfashion #fashionbrands

Hello Denver friends! Nude Foods Market legendary clothes shop, swap, and consign event is coming to our DENVER store on September 21st from 10am-1pm! We will have a free section with clothes to donate and take, as well as a consignment section where you can sell/buy! Register ahead of time for 10% off your groceries in store that day, and we ask that you definitely register ahead if you’re consigning clothes! Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gXxRM9cJ “You’re a grocery store, why are you having a clothing swap?” Well, our mission over here is to reduce waste, especially plastic (which is made from oil 🤢). And textile production generates 95.6 BILLION (with a b!) pounds of plastic waste per year, making the textile industry the second worst industrial sector after packaging. And most of these cheap polyester clothes that are being put out into the world release microplastics into the water which make their way to the ocean. Rather than contributing to waste or buying from unethical and unsustainable clothing companies, we want to help people opt for more eco-friendly fashion choices! Getting things second hand is one way to do that!!! #zerowaste #clothingswap #ethicalbusiness #sustainablebusiness #denvercolorado #denverevents

PLASTIC BAGS Declutter your plastic bags. (Often stored under the sink or in the kitchen) Gather up all of your bags. Decide how many spares you actually need. If you struggle to part with many - ask yourself what could be using this space instead of all of these bags? Try confining the bags to one area in the cupboard (you could try the tissue box trick - https://lnkd.in/g6v5rpyU) Those you don't want and are in usable condition, see if a local charity shop can reuse them, otherwise they go in the bin or to Terracycle in one of their mixed boxes. (You have to purchase the recycling boxes).

In today's world, recycling is more important than ever, and clothes banks offer a simple and effective way to divert unwanted clothes from landfills. Here's how they make a difference: ⬇️ ✅ Extending the Life Cycle of Clothing: Donated clothes in good condition can be given a second life by being worn by someone else. This reduces the demand for new clothing production and its associated environmental impact. ✅ Supporting Communities: Collection4Clothes works with various charities and social enterprises. Donated clothes are either sold in charity shops or recycled into new products, generating funds for good causes and creating jobs. ✅ Promoting Sustainable Practices: Clothes banks raise awareness about the environmental impact of the fashion industry and encourage people to think twice before throwing away clothes. At Collection4Clothes, we have a network of conveniently located clothes donation bins across the UK. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟬 - 𝐆𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐀-𝐙 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐢𝐧 ❌ Your recycling bin isn’t the right fit for clothes and other textiles. If they end up in your recycling bin, there is a chance they could get damaged in the recycling process, by coming into contact with all sorts of contamination or even damage the recycling facility itself. We’d recommend selling them or donating them to a charity shop or clothing bank. 👖

🌍 Joining the #EarthDay celebration fashionably late! 🌿 My journey to minimalism over the last 6 years hasn't transformed my house into a pristine, spacious haven, but it's led to mindful choices. I try to be conscious about what I bring into the house. If I buy a new item, it must serve a purpose NOW or it must bring me “joy.” ♻️ I wanted to share some eco-friendly resources that I’ve found to get rid of items in a thoughtful way: 👗 Clothes and Textiles: Donating gently used items to Goodwill or passing kids' clothes to fellow moms. For stained or items you can’t donate, I purchase a Take Back Bag from For Days. You can recycle up to 15lbs of textiles per bag. 👟 Shoes: GotSneakers is a great organization that will recycle old shoes for free. They started with sneakers, but has expanded to accept all types of shoes. 🧸 Children's Toys: Having a young child came with a lot of plastic toys. I’ve donated a lot of toys to Second Chance Toys. They rescue and recycle plastic toys for children in need by donating them to community organizations. 🚗 Car Seats: Take advantage of Target's Earth Day recycling program to responsibly dispose of old or expired car seats. Check local listings around April. 🏷️ New with Tags: These are items I bought with the intention of using them and never did, so now I feel guilty about wasting the money. For these items I love using Poshmark to rehome and fund my Starbucks habit. ☕ It's about progress, not perfection! 🌱 I love this quote to stay motivated: “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.” - Anne Marie Bonneau #ReduceReuseRecycle #SustainableLiving

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 Did you know that around 11.3 million tons of textile waste end up in US landfills each year? This includes clothing, shoes, socks, pajamas, backpacks, & more — items that are discarded & never given a second chance. Many of these items are seasonal, clearance, store returns, or overstock products that could otherwise have been used. As a 1% for the Planet partner, we're committed to repurposing these essential items by working with businesses & retailers to redirect these items away from landfills & into the hands of foster youth who need them. Are you interested in donating products to help both people & the planet? Send us a message!
