Hot Take: Embrace the unconventional. I recently reconnected with a former client & friend, Nora Kenney. A decade ago, Nora was running store design & construction for Under Armour, and my design firm at the time was hired to conceptualize and build the store-of-the-future. I remember the day I took this picture. Fresh off the plane and praying that our client would align with our vision.🙏😅 I can still visualize the “war room” in our office. Black foam core boards splattered with ideas, eventually becoming a digital mood board, concept design deck, etc. We were both laughing at how much has changed…but also how much has remained the same. Both Type A, perfectionists, self-proclaimed overachievers…we anticipated remaining in our industry forever to perfect our craft. But we both had a desire to explore, and each of us ended up somewhere we never thought we would be. Our conversation made me reflect and think, “What would happen if we explored the world outside of our comfort zone?” We often think within the realm of what we do. I challenge you to look beyond the obvious. Explore new industries, leverage the diverse background of your team to bring fresh thinking.
