🚀🌿 Innovative Solutions with Begonia Project! 🌿🚀 🔋 Tackling the intermittency of renewable energy sources and their impact on the grid as well as cross border commute and charging of electric vehicles🔋 Project #BEGONIA is an #EnergyDataSpaces project underpinning development of Operational Digital Platforms (ODPs) to support cross-sector issues involving energy, transport and telecom sectors. This is especially crucial in cross-country scenarios where the current traditional solution to the problem can be very costly and difficult. 🌍💰 Let's look at a commute I am personally familiar with. Schengen has opened the borders for free market, including labour market to flourish in EU. For instance, there are commuters traveling from Slovakia 🇸🇰, Hungary 🇭🇺 or even Slovenia 🇸🇰 to Austria 🇦🇹 often on a daily basis for work as Austria serves as an economic hub of CEE region. These drivers have very different charging and commute patterns than their typical city-bound counterparts who go to work and charge overnight at home. How can we support them, while reducing emissions and helping them save money? One of our proposed scenarios in #BEGONIA we are looking at, observes critical factors affecting energy production (such as weather patterns) 🌦️ and energy consumption (like peak commuter traffic hours) 🚗. Using machine learning algorithms, we predict the impact of these factors, enabling better optimization on both the production and consumption sides. 📊🤖 Together with our partners in BEGONIA and in Blueprint we have been discussing: 🔹 Development of ODPs that underpin smart, sustainable, and scalable EV charging solutions, facilitating seamless cross-border mobility for EV users. 🔹 Incorporation of smart charging technology and renewable energy to alleviate the strain on electrical grids. 🔹 Implementing different pricing models in cross-border regions, including dynamic pricing models to make new services accessible and economical. In full-scale, Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are a noteworthy driver of economic development, being vital to most economies across the world, particularly in developing and emerging nations. They represent 99% of all businesses in the EU. SME's are crucial for local and national economic development and play a noteworthy role in poverty alleviation, job creation and economic growth with SME's providing over 85% of new jobs in the EU in the last 5 years. However, SME's encounter many funding barriers and require a continued source of longstanding funding to invest in necessary growth opportunities. Discussions will focus on: -How do we tackle the potential funding constraints impactful to SME's and the skills of their workforce? -Community and Regional Funding Policy and Industrial policy -Regional Competitiveness -Visibility and Signposting for funding access to support SME's - Who's responsibility? This week, Bothnia Green Energy gathered HR from Skellefteå Kraft, Umeå Energi AB, Övik Energi AB, Oy Herrfors Ab, Kokkolan Energia Oy and Vaasan Sähkö Oy to discuss future collaboration between the energy companies. It was an interesting day onboard Aurora Botnia with a lot of discussions to learn more about each other and to see which synergies there are when it comes to recruiting talents. The University of Vaasa, University of Oulu, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and Wärtsilä Finland Oy have agreed to collaborate on the establishment of a joint energy laboratory for industry and research institutions. 👏 The laboratory, located at the University of Vaasa, promotes the energy transition by developing future low-emission engines. 💬 – The new energy laboratory not only promotes technological development but also strengthens our commitment to sustainable energy and the future.
