Employee Development Services in the Community volunteers step up the first Friday of each month to support the The Salvation Army USA Breakfast with Baby program! Each month, they pack bags of 50 diapers to help families in need. From carrying boxes to the work area to counting and sorting diapers by size, their dedication is making a real difference. We’re incredibly proud of their commitment and contributions to the community!

A significant portion of the work we do as social workers help people experiencing hardships, e.g., illness, substance misuse, housing and/or food insecurity and others, access the resources they need to overcome their circumstances. That said, I believe it's important to highlight some of the practice areas many may not associate with our discipline, those include: criminal justice, healthcare, Armed Forces, public policy, entertainment, sports and scores of others. Have you witnessed or been a part of an area of practice that would be considered non-traditional or unconventional for a social worker? #socialwork #socialworker #mentalhealth #education #socialworkers #community #therapy #volunteer #mentalhealthawareness #socialworklife #msw #lcsw #socialgood #therapist

At Pathfinders Ltd, we've been deeply committed to enhancing the well-being of children and young people in out-of-home care (OoHC) by investing in strong partnerships and cultural understanding. Recently, at the Association of Children's Welfare Agencies conference, we presented on the importance of collaboration, trust-building, listening and capacity building with Aboriginal community-controlled OoHC organisations during transition periods. This aligns perfectly with the NSW Government's initiative to transfer case management responsibilities to these agencies, recognising their crucial role in nurturing cultural connections and providing essential support. Our partnership with Armajun Aboriginal Health Services exemplifies this commitment. Armajun is the only Aboriginal organisation offering health care services in the northern New England area in NSW and is a recognised Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO). CEO to CEO, we've built a relationship grounded in respect and shared goals, focusing on cultural continuity and healing for children affected by abuse and neglect. Together, we're overcoming challenges, fostering understanding, and promoting policies that empower Aboriginal communities. Like all successful relationships it has taken time for each party to settle into a rhythm. We have given each other space and time to become comfortable with each other. Challenges such as organisational cultural differences, funding constraints, and power imbalances are acknowledged and the emphasis is on collaborative efforts to address these challenges together and to promote policies that support Aboriginal self-determination and sovereignty. We are dedicated to sharing our expertise, resources, policies, and practices to ensure that every child in care receives the best possible support – regardless of provider - as we believe in the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing to elevate standards in out-of-home care. Our work isn't just about transferring children in care—it's about creating safe, stable environments where every child can thrive. The outcomes we're seeing underscore the power of collaboration and genuine partnership in achieving positive social impact. Thank you to our partners, stakeholders, and dedicated team at Pathfinders for their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children in OoHC. Let's continue this journey of support, learning, and growth together! #Pathfinders #ChildWelfare #AboriginalCommunity #PartnershipInAction #SocialImpact #CulturalContinuity #ACWA #OOHC #ABSEC #SNAICC

My thoughts in the plight of youth in Alice Springs, as highlighted by Aboriginal elders, underscores the urgent need for systemic change and community empowerment. Issues such as over-policing, welfare dependency, family breakdown, and challenges faced by children in foster care paint a grim picture of the cycle of neglect and hardship. The voices of the elders, often unheard, offer valuable insights into the root causes of these problems and the way forward. The failure to listen to community voices and address underlying issues perpetuates a cycle that hinders progress and perpetuates social challenges. The call for solidarity among authorities, politicians, and community members is crucial to bring about meaningful change. Empowering Aboriginal individuals in senior positions and providing opportunities for meaningful employment are vital steps towards breaking the cycle of disadvantage and fostering a sense of community ownership. My firsthand experiences living alive springs and shared by those who have witnessed these challenges on the ground serve as a stark reminder of the need for a collaborative and inclusive approach to tackle the complex issues faced by the youth in Alice Springs. It is a call to action for all stakeholders to work together with empathy, understanding, and a shared commitment to building a more equitable and supportive environment for the entire community.
