Fourteen years ago today, Hurricane Sandy destroyed Pier 54. Today, remnants of that pier live on as an integral part of Little Island’s design. The original piles, still visible at low tide, inspired the park’s unique structure – rising from the water like petals to cradle the park’s greenery. The transformation from a desecrated pier to a vibrant public space is a testament to innovation and resilience. 📸: Michael Grimm

Residential Case Study: Hurricane Court, Slough Hurricane Court is a conversion of offices into 84 one and two bedroom contemporary apartments and studios. The name is derived from the Hawker Hurricane aircraft manufactured here in the 1940’s. Within five miles of Heathrow, this development is the first ever courtyard scheme and residential private balcony terraces in Langley. By developing a gated residential space, this project becomes a microcosm, a community within the already idyllic community of Langley. Cellecta’s RUBBERfon Cradles were specified by p-ad due to them being Robust Detail FFT2 compliant and allowing easy integration of an underfloor heating system. RUBBERfon Cradles utilise incremental high impact plastic packers and elevation blocks to level an uneven structural floor quickly and easily. Softwood battens are then used to support the floor decking board. Nacropolis Group was supplied 2,500m² of Cellecta products to develop these apartments in the village of Langley in Berkshire. ⛈️ Heavy rain can quietly infiltrate your home, causing issues that can escalate quickly. Here are the 5 most common sources of water damage and what to look for: 1. Roof Leaks 🏠: Water spots on your ceiling or dampness in the attic could signal a roof leak. Check for missing shingles or damaged flashing that might allow water to seep in. 2. Foundation Seepage 💧: Notice any dampness or water pooling in your basement? Cracks in your foundation can let water in. Keep an eye out for any signs of moisture along basement walls. 3. Sump Pump Failure ⚠️: If your sump pump stops working during a storm, your basement could flood. Test your sump pump regularly and listen for unusual noises during heavy rain. 4. Clogged Gutters & Downspouts 🍂: Overflowing gutters can cause water to spill down your home’s exterior and pool near the foundation. Look for water stains on your walls or erosion near your foundation. 5. Window & Door Leaks 🚪: If you find water near your windows or doors after a storm, you might have a leak. Check for peeling paint, warped wood, or dampness around these areas. Stay vigilant! 🏠🔍 Early detection can save you from costly repairs. Regular inspections and maintenance can help keep your home dry and protected. If you spot any of these warning signs, Paul’s Restorations is here to help. I’m requesting to skip to December 25, 2024. Hurricane Season will be over. The election will be over. My Buckeyes will be ranked #1 and headed to the playoffs. MIS, a SalasOBrien company, will have completed another great year! Mary will have opened her Christmas presents the day before. On Christmas Day itself all I have to do is rest and contemplate how much food to eat. #generalcontractors #construction #waterproofing #architects #buildingenvelope #commercialconstruction #constructionprojects #multifamily #constructionindustry #developers #apartment #architect #developercommunity #development #designbuild #design #build #publicadjusters #firstresponders #attorneys #hotelier #MISaSalasOBrienCompany #SalasOBrien #EngineeredforImpact #sustainable #sustainability #thermography #energyefficient #insurance #CAMS #HOA #milestone #engineers #SIRS #reservestudies #milestone

This is a timely presentation in the wake of the two recent storms. Surprisingly, they suggest concrete is a good construction material for building Hurricane-Proof homes -- who knew? ;) And with fiber in the concrete, you can reduce the ingress of chlorides and enhance the durability. #concrete #fiber #sustainability https://lnkd.in/exWKdygb

Historic buildings hold decades—if not centuries—of history in them. Often with these historic buildings and homes, the roof is one of the most identifiable parts of it. However, roofs are often damaged by the sun, rain, or hurricane winds—especially older roofs. That’s why expert roofing is vital for the preservation of historic buildings!
