Do empathy and capitalism have to be mutually exclusive? Can we do the right thing for the company and also try to the right thing by the employees affected? Inflexion Games appears to be trying. Kudos. In an increasingly polarizing world of pitting good nature against good business - kudos to anyone trying to find a way forward that can infuse the two. A business is run by people making decisions for, with, and about people - and I am not jealous of those present at a chopping block board meeting. So how do you do it right? How do you do right by both the people and by the books? Comment below, you scruffy-looking Nerf-herders. #futureofwork #whatnext #creatives #gamedev
We announced on Wednesday that our studio made the difficult decision to reduce our headcount in a necessary effort to cut costs. We are reaching out to seek support for the individuals who have been impacted, those who have given us their consent are identified on the list below. The folks impacted come from a variety of disciplines including art, production, design, programming and operations. If you have an open role, know of someone in your network who is hiring, or can offer a form of support to accelerate their job search - we ask that you please keep these folks in mind. We want to reiterate that this decision is not reflective of the individuals who have been impacted, and we’re extremely disheartened about having to say goodbye to such a large portion of our team. Thank you in advance for your support.

It's the season of pumpkins and spooky 🎃 👻 Today I went with my 4 year old niece to a pumpkin festival in a local town and she showed me yet again, without even knowing, how to #play. We were walking past a board set up for checkers. However the pieces had been switched out for pumpkins of various sizes in buckets. She said she wanted to play. She had never played checkers before and we started setting up the pumpkins. I told her "all the pieces move diagonally" and she repeated it back to me, but immediately started moving each of the pumpkins one square ahead, one by one, because that was much more interesting to her than playing the actual game. When she had reached the halfway point she said "Now I do that side!" and we switched sides. She started by putting all of the pumpkins in her bucket because that was fun. Then she took one up and rolled it across the board. I received it and rolled it back. That was also very fun to do. She took a structured play space, subconciously said "screw that", and then just started playing with what she had, undeterred by the constraints. That's something I always hope to imitate when I #design #games. Never lose the ability to play. ----- ⭐ I'm a Professional Game & Software Developer 📜 Resume: https://www.hiremads.today 🖼 Portfolio: https://lnkd.in/dRf-XB8B #gamedev #opentowork #openforwork #jobhunting #jobsearching #indiedev #indiegamedev #denmarkjobs #denmark #freelance #unity3d #software #softwaredev

Here are three simple and engaging game ideas suitable for kids that you can consider coding for phone apps: 1. Color Match A simple game where kids match colors to corresponding objects or patterns. The game can start with basic colors and gradually introduce new ones. As kids progress, the difficulty can increase by adding more color options and complex patterns. 2. Memory Card Game A classic memory game where kids flip over cards to find matching pairs. This game helps improve memory and concentration. You can add different themes (animals, fruits, shapes, etc.) and varying levels of difficulty by increasing the number of cards. 3. Puzzle Adventure An adventure game where kids solve puzzles to advance through levels. The puzzles can include jigsaw puzzles, spot-the-difference challenges, or simple math problems. The game can have a storyline, like rescuing a character or exploring a magical world, to keep kids engaged. These games are not only fun but also educational, helping kids develop cognitive and problem-solving skills. I aspire to start small and build my way up to not only educate but entertain the future generation with captivating ideas and experiences! Have you experienced the Click - Click effect ❓ One way employees can figure out how confident a candidate is, deploring the keyboard trick. If the interviewer asks a question, they don’t like, you can often hear them typing louder. A sign to the interviewee the answer is being recorded. They are looking to determine if a candidate will modify their answer during this sneaky questioning. This article, posted in the RIT game design alumni server, contains two very worthwhile PowerPoints that describe what you should and should not do before and after being laid off from a games industry job. Worth Dayley, the OG author of these talks, essentially gives a cut-and-dry checklist of what to do when everything you know is suddenly up in the air. I believe I've done most of them at this point. I would add one thing, though. If you are in the US, you can apply for Medicaid after your unemployment runs out OR if you are getting below a certain percentage of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. I know from personal experience that Pennsylvania considers 133% or lower on the FPIG chart for Medicaid. That is roughly $19,000 a year. Not everyone will want to or be able to take advantage of this, but it's out there. At the very least, it's a much cheaper option than COBRA. (The files are absolutely safe to download. Trust me, my computer is still running just fine 🤠)
