As Hong Kong’s population ages, we are witnessing a significant increase in the number of ethnic minority elders. Yet, our systems and services have not evolved to adequately support this diverse group. 🔍 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 Hong Kong Christian Service 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: - 𝟏𝟔𝟎% 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 in the ethnic minority elderly population over the past 10 years. - 𝟖𝟕.𝟔% of ethnic minority elders and their caregivers have never utilized mainstream elderly services due to language barriers and cultural differences. - Only 𝟏𝟎% have successfully received the necessary services... These statistics reveal a critical gap in our elderly care framework. We must not allow language and cultural differences to hinder access to essential services. A more inclusive and culturally sensitive approach is urgently needed. 📋𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: - 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Enhance the understanding of ethnic needs through comprehensive cultural training programs for service providers. - 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: Provide information in multiple languages to ensure accessibility and break down communication barriers. 💡 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gActtGpJ Let this data be a catalyst for change, encouraging better support for elders of all ethnicities in Hong Kong.

Happy Human Rights Day! 👐 This year's theme is 'Our rights, our future, right now'. At IF, we recognise mental health as a universal human right and a cornerstone of an inclusive, fulfilling life. However, for individuals with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH), the path to mental well-being is often obstructed by societal stigma, discrimination, and a lack of adequate support systems. On this important day, we call on policymakers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to: ☑️ Ensure the availability, accessibility, and variety of mental health services; ☑️Formulate, update, and enforce national policies, programs, and legislation on mental health; ☑️ Provide and finance specialised training programs for healthcare professionals to effectively address the specific mental health needs of individuals with disabilities; ☑️ Promote awareness of mental health through campaigns aimed at combating disability-related stigma; ☑️ Safeguard and promote the inclusion and active involvement of the SBH community #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs; ☑️ Integrate mental health into routine health information systems by collecting, analysing, and reporting disaggregated data to improve service delivery, prevention strategies, and contributions to the Global Mental Health Observatory. ↪️ Read our full statement on mental health: https://bit.ly/3OTwV89 These recommendations are also included in our recent Kuala Lumpur Declaration which you can co-sign here: https://bit.ly/3ONRvqQ #HumanRightsDay #OurRightsOurFuture #HumanRights #Equality #MentalHealth #StandUpForRights #SpinaBifida #Hydrocephalus #SBH #DisabilityRights > United Nations Human Rights

Here are my throwback photos towards the end of the Madrid lockdown in 2019. Those were harrowing times, yet humanity faced the challenge with unmatched solidarity and fortitude. We all came together and supported one another as we faced the ordeal. Indeed, the severity of the situation brought out the best in us. During this period, I led a coaching circle for over 20 expatriate women living in Madrid. My aim was to ensure every member felt supported, empowered, and had a role to play. Through daily communication and interactive tasks, we formed a tight-knit community that navigated those uncertain times as one. In one of the workshops, we delved into the concept of emotional contagion. Drawing parallels with how emotions influence traders in financial markets, I flipped the script, focusing on how positive emotions can spread just as easily, especially in particular states of mind. This exploration inspired the creation of "Serenity Talks" and "Serenity Dives," bite-sized Tibetan meditation and mindfulness practices tailored for busy expat women on the go. The goal was to provide tools for cultivating inner calm amidst external chaos. Looking back, I'm reminded of the resilience and strength exhibited by these remarkable women. By coming together, sharing experiences, and learning to overcome challenges mindfully, we fostered a supportive expat sisterhood that uplifts one another beyond those extraordinary circumstances. Here’s raising a glass to all expatriates and their families who are braving transitions! #expatlife #honoring #globalwomen #expatfamilies #personalgrowth

Many of you have asked me about the outcome of the Peer Review on “Legislative and enforcement approaches to address psychosocial risks at work in the Member States” that took place in late June and was coordinated by the European Commission. The peer review provides a comprehensive overview of different national strategies, building on a previous 2019 peer review in Sweden that reviewed strategies for addressing psychosocial risks at the EU level. The outcomes of this exercise will feed into the Commission's internal considerations on tackling psychosocial risks at the EU level, potentially leading to a dedicated EU-level initiative, subject to input from social partners. The Peer Review brought together government representatives and independent experts from Belgium Finland, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden.
