The Shape of Sound brought together three of our favourite things: sound, science, and art. By exploring Cymatics and using Chladni Plate experiments, it visualised audio frequencies, blending the analog beauty of waveforms with digital technology.
For Cycle 15 of the Alt-w Awards, The Shape of Sound explored how frequency shapes matter, merging the art and science of visible sound in an immersive installation. Delving into the captivating world of Cymatics, it revealed the science of visualising audio frequencies through Chladni Plate experiments, capturing the analog beauty of waveforms through a digital lens. The experience celebrated the seamless interplay of sound, science, and art, revealing the hidden beauty of vibrations in a whole new light. Aiming to bridge the gap between the audience and the often unseen visual realm of sound and science, The Shape of Sound transformed the expansive LED screen at Aberdeen’s Music Hall into a dynamic abstract speaker, offering a mesmerising visual symphony where sound, science, and art converged. Soundscape by talented Scottish composer Pippa Murphy, and working alongside the brilliant Mark Daniels from New Media Scotland, we absolutely loved working on this piece.
