#Safeguarding Good governance and organisational oversight " Recruitment of a diverse Board " In order to ensure that the organisation benefits from a variety of view s from the best minds and informed decision-making, the recruitment of Board members is of vital importance. Even for network or membership organisations, where they may not have a choice on who is on the Board, the members should develop clear terms of reference and a job description, which should include responsibilities for safeguarding (as this is a shared responsibility) when recruiting Board members. Board members should undergo a clear recruitment process that includes submitting an application form and a CV and attending an interview where safeguarding questions are asked. A Board made up of different ages, gender, ethnicity and sexuality will provide deeper, more meaningful discussions and improve accountability. However, a Board where everyone thinks or looks the same will fall into the trap of complacency and denial when safeguarding concerns arise. https://lnkd.in/dDeXuXqv

Is Your Job Applicant Who They Say They Are? Disgraced Nick Adderley, of Northamptonshire Police, has been dismissed after creating a legend of himself which was untrue and more than likely was influential in his rise to chief constable. Tanya Nasir, a neonatal ward manager, stands accused of lying about her qualifications and stealing money raised for her neonatal unit by a charity. These are just two very public employment scandals which I've picked because they're in the news this week. Huge failings which occurred in big (public-funded) organisations with whole departments dedicated to hiring, vetting and managing staff. I believe it's easier still for a small business, without specialised HR and recruitment support, to hire someone who portrays themself as something they are not. They are far less likely to make basic checks. And whilst your business might not be employing a fraud for a role which is there to serve and protect the public, beware! In my experience, it's possible to uncover many a lie in the first telephone screening, provided it's done properly. A permanent job being passed off as a temporary contract, dates spread to cover employment gaps, and deliberate vagueness around qualifications and membership status are more common than you might think. Dig further and you'll sometimes find that the reason why someone felt the need to do that becomes less ignorant, cheeky or ill-advised and more sinister. https://lnkd.in/ePcGsmgc

I'm priviledged to be supporting One In Four Ireland in their search for a Strategic Engagement Director. Could it be you?? Demand for One In Four Ireland's services continues to increase significantly. CEO Deirdre Kenny has described the recent surge as "both heartening and alarming... It shows that more survivors are coming forward, but also highlights the scale of the problem we face as a society." In 2023, the organisation delivered 6,562 sessions to 856 individuals, but the waiting list for treatment increased by 42% to 118 clients. Since September, more than 500 people have approached the organisation seeking support, which One in Four says underscores "the deep-seated impact of childhood sexual abuse in Irish society". Over the last two decades, One In Four Ireland has established a high profile and excellent reputation in public discourse regarding the prevalence and effects of child sexual abuse. With a new CEO at the helm since April 2024, the organisation is at an exciting point as the team finalises development of a new strategic plan. If you are a strategic, experienced, and driven leader with strategic communications and fundraising experience, drop me a line to find out more. Applications closing date 22nd November. #nonprofit #executive #recruitment #strategic #communications #fundraising #leadership

Last week we launch our new recruitment programme - No More Tears -which is dedicated to providing a lifeline for individuals affected by domestic abuse, helping them rebuild their lives through meaningful employment opportunities. By partnering with EVE (based on Northampton) and other domestic abuse charities across the UK, we aim to: - Empower Survivors: Employment isn’t just about a pay check—it’s a step toward independence, confidence, and a brighter future for those who have experienced domestic abuse. - Champion Inclusivity: We connect like-minded companies with talented individuals who might otherwise be overlooked due to gaps in employment or personal challenges stemming from their experiences. - Foster Community Support: By bridging the gap between employers and employees, we’re creating a network of businesses that value compassion and diversity in their workforce. Together, we can provide a fresh start and new hope for survivors of domestic abuse while helping businesses discover resilient, capable, and dedicated candidates. Get in touch if you are an employer and would like more information about how you can get involved or alternatively if you are a survivor of domestic abuse and looking for help and support to get back to work, we can help. #backtowork #makingadifference #domesticabuse #community #inclusivity #employment #job #career #recruitment
