The important role of fan first live content in major moments. I love seeing the key role live content has played for the England team around major tournaments. Starting with the departure show to send the team off, the ‘Lions Den’ live show returns for Euro 2024, having first launched at the 2018 Russia World Cup. Huge credit to the The Football Association England team and agencies for continuing to recognise the importance and value of giving fans live access to the team, when a safer standard content approach would of course be easier. For me, the Lions Den shows off the key benefits of creating live shoulder content: 1) It’s a home for fan interaction - In the live chat, engagement via social and fan questions via video clips - it brings a sense of two way community around the England team. 2) Partner integration - Lions Den has a presenting partner in EE for the show. I think many people forget making live social programming creates new high value partner inventory. 3) Intimacy builds trust - The fact they go live with such frequency, a rotating list of players and from the actual England Camp really breaks down the barriers between fan and team, building affinity even when results may not go our way. In addition, they created a show that the players actually don't mind participating in - it feels like fun for them, not a chore. They have been pioneers of understanding the benefits of socially driven live content, which now many more rights-holders are beginning to understand the value of. #sportsbiz #sportsindustry
