Valve has introduced a new native game recording feature within the #Steam client, currently in beta. This tool allows users to record gameplay either continuously in the background or triggered by a hotkey. Users can set a storage limit for recordings, with older ones automatically overwritten when the limit is reached. The feature includes a Replay capability accessible via the #SteamOverlay, enabling users to review and mark significant moments during gameplay. Recordings can be easily transferred from a #SteamDeck to other devices for sharing or uploading. It specifically captures game footage, excluding desktop activity but potentially including audio from voice chat applications. This functionality extends to most games, including those not purchased through Steam, as long as they support Steam Overlay. To access this feature, users must opt into the beta program through Steam's settings under #BetaParticipation in Interface, and then activate the #GameRecording option. How Loading Screens Are Killing Retention? I recently downloaded a big game (won’t name it), and it took 15 minutes to download, despite a good internet connection. Then, once I launched it, I was hit with shader compiling and asset loading—more waiting(45Seconds to 1min). On a flagship S23 Ultra. At this point, I was already done. In a world where time is everything, no one’s sticking around for long loading times. The game was deleted. 🔴 The Issue: Too much waiting before the action even starts. For mobile, this is even worse. If players can’t jump into the game within seconds, they’ll lose interest fast. 🎮 The Solution: For mobile games, simple mini-games during loading screens can make all the difference. A quick, engaging activity keeps players entertained while assets load, just like what we see in titles like Assassin's Creed or God of War. A more technical solution like optimizing game assets, implementing unity addressable, preloading key assets or scene streaming can work in this kind of situation for quick entry.
