The typical instruments needed for a tasting are: a table covered with a white tablecloth a lamp providing good illumination a receptacle for the wine (Pisco) that is discarded (spit out) The glasses should be made of clear, fine, and long-stemmed crystal, with a narrower mouth than their body (tulip shape). "AFNOR" glasses. Taken from zonadiet "After learning that the average price of Pisco abroad is US$ 7.50 per liter, I can affirm that it is below the quality offered by our flagship distilled spirit. Made with Pisco grapes, we first produce a wine and then distill it. It is not diluted, distilled more than once, or aged in barrels. It is distilled to proof, which means that the master distiller is at the forefront of the still, testing and separating the head and tail to keep the heart. The master is present throughout the process to achieve the best, making Pisco a unique product in the world. How can we ensure that Pisco has an internationally appropriate price for its quality? We need to add value to it. One idea proposed is to use tasters. The standard requires a chemical analysis for all Piscos, but not an organoleptic analysis conducted by expert tasters certified according to the Peruvian standard INACAL NTP-ISO 8586:2014. This would add value to the national spirit. If we encounter a potential buyer abroad and they ask what the difference is between the distilled spirit from Chile (which bears the same name) and Pisco, we know that the one from the southern country is cheaper and often included in wine packages. In Peru, there will be four or five wineries that can offer the complete package: wine and Pisco. However, let's be honest. Our wines still do not compete at the same level. I am sure they will in the future..." https://lnkd.in/eQ-SZGg5

Wine Time with Aaron the Wine Guy by Aaron Winsor Hello Prince Albert! Most wine drinkers are familiar with the usual fortified wines like Port, Sherry and Madeira but one specific style of fortified wine often flies under the radar and like Port, it is also made in Portugal. I’m talking about a wine from the Southern Peninsula of Portugal known as Moscatel de Setubal which is a legally defined and protected production zone. #AaronTheWineGuy #opinion #PADailyHerald #WineTime #winsorcolumn

DISCOVERING SZEKSZÁRD: Have you heard about this Hungarian 🇭🇺 region before? Then, let me suggest a premium Cabernet: ⬇️ Szekszárd is just next to Villány (you know, the one I am always talking about, the most southern Hungarian region) but somewhat northern. Another place where you can produce world-class red wines in Hungary and qualified to label Bull’s Blood too! ☝️ Lajver Winery’s Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is just the perfect example of how good a red wine can be! One of the most well-known names from Szekszárd. If you are unfamiliar with the region, that is a good place to start. 👉 A deep ruby color in the glass with high viscosity. The wine slightly colors the edge of the glass. The nose is intensely filled with spices (black pepper, cardamom, cocoa, dark chocolate, star anise, tobacco) backed up with plums and cassis and a touch of mint. ☝️ The flavors are very harmonious with the aromas from the nose, more black fruits, and slightly sweeter spices. The tannins are present but rounded and ripe, acidity is medium plus but integrated and the alcohol is not that persistent. A very well-balanced wine! ❗️Excellent quality that still can be drunk in 8-10 years at 16-18°C. It needs a lot of protein to pair or a deer stew with blackcurrant sauce. This wine made it to My Top 10+1 Hungarian wines 🇭🇺 – diversity at its best! article with the most impressive wines I have tasted in the last couple of years. Vanillin is the main flavour compound found in vanilla and is also found in oak. . Below is an explanation by @drjamiegoode of the aromatic impact of oak in wines depending if a wine is barrel-fermented or tank-fermented and then barrel aged. Extract from "The Science of Wine" - a book I certainly would recommend to any Somms out there. . "If the wine is actually fermented in oak barrels, yeasts metabolism reduces the vanillin concentration by reducing it into the odourless vanillic alcohol. Therefore, barrel-fermented wines smell less oaky than the same wines would that were fermented in tank and then transferred to a barrel, even though they've been aged longer". . Also good to note that levels of vanillin are increased by toasting the oak of a barrel but however, passed a certain point of toasting/high toasting level, the level of vanillin does decrease. . . #sommninja #winestudent #asisomms #courtofmastersommeliers #sommeliere #sommelierlife #sommelierlifestyle #sommeliers #wineeducation #advancedsommelier

NATIONAL MOSCATO DAY On May 9th, raise your glass and toast National Moscato Day. Moscato, or Muscat in Italian, is one of the oldest known varieties of grapes grown in the world. The Moscato grape ranges in color from white to almost black. Its flavor varies, too, from sweet to dry. Winemakers use this quite versatile grape to make everything from sparkling and dessert wines to dry and floral wines. Where one Moscato may pair well with a steak, another will go well with fresh fruit and a sharp cheese plate. In February of 2012, it was reported that Moscato wine became the third most popular white wine consumed within the United States. HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL MOSCATO DAY Prepare a nice plate of fresh cheeses and fruit. Grab a bottle of your favorite Moscato and pour a glass to enjoy the day. Invite friends to share a bottle of Moscato (yes, you can share) or attend a wine tasting. Wine tastings are a great way to learn about wines and their best pairings. too learn more about great wines that are clean crafted check out https://lnkd.in/gHZ_wbxZ have a great day!!!

It is the only non-alcoholic red wine made from Tempranillo grapes and aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels . It has two types of fermentation: alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and malolactic fermentation when the alcohol has been removed. TASTING PHASES VISUAL: A deep cardinal colour is appreciated, medium layer, clean and bright. NOSE: Frank and elegant aromas with red fruits and persistent tertiary touches from the aging of the wine in barrels (roasted, liquorice). MOUTH: A balanced and velvety wine is appreciated, the same aromas that persist on the nose. PAIRING: Win Tempranillo is a very ideal wine for pairing with meats and game dishes. Using proprietary, non-chemical techniques, the Win-makers have retained the flavours, aromas and primary characteristics of the original wine. The Win line of non-alcoholic wines is produced by Sin Alcohol, utilizing wines of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera which is one of the leading wineries of Spain, is found deep in the heart of the Ribera del Duero - producers of famous Granza wines. 🔥 What’s hot in the world of wine❓ 🔗 Link in bio https://lnkd.in/guc222if 🍷 What are orange wines and why are they hot right now? 🍊 Let’s clear this up first: orange wine is not made from oranges, it refers only to the wine’s colour. It’s also known as amber wine or skin-fermented white wine. 🥂 Although orange wine seems new and trendy, it’s actually an ancient style of wine that’s been used for thousands of years to make white wines, often fermented without temperature control for long periods in qvevri (clay vessels or amphorae), in regions such as Georgia and Armenia. 🌿 How did natural wines become trendy? 🌟 They start out like making white wine, but then they leave the grape skins on during fermentation just as red wines do and white wines do not. 🎨 The grape skins contain these magical aromatic precursors that eventually get released into the wine to create its distinctive aromas, flavours and colour. 🍇 Much like orange wines, natural wines are a move toward less manipulation in the winemaking process. This trend goes hand in glove with movements toward organic produce and buying local from small-scale farmers. 🥃 Wine aged in whisky barrels are having a moment right now. Instead of using tradition oak barrels from France, Hungary, Spain, etc, some winemakers are innovating and using barrels that were previously used to make whisky in Canada or bourbon in the US. 🍷 Have you tried an orange wine❓ Cheers, 🥂 Natalie 🍷 PS Get my free "Ultimate Guide to Wine & Food Pairing" at: https://lnkd.in/ghiPfx_F 🔗 Link is also in the bio ✉️ Or just DM me and ask for the guide! A quick guide to port wine: Port is an expansive category of fortified wine that can be made with around 80 grapes and has been enjoyed for hundreds of years. If you have sipped this potent beverage, it was likely at the end of a meal. But where does this drink come from? Here’s everything you need to know about this fortified wine. 1️⃣ Port is a Portuguese fortified wine that is made by adding distilled grape spirit, usually brandy, to a wine base. The addition of the high-alcohol spirit stops fermentation and “fortifies” the wine. 2️⃣ Port is made in Portugal’s Douro Valley. Much like how Champagne can only be called such if it’s from the Champagne region of France, only wines produced in the Douro Valley can be labeled Port. 3️⃣ There are different styles of port wines like Ruby, Tawny, Vintage, Late Bottled Vintage ports. 4️⃣ Port wines can be best served in short tulip shaped glasses 5️⃣Port can pair well with a variety of foods. But typically, when you are drinking a sweet wine, you’ll want to enjoy it with a sweet dish. Think laird trifle, butterscotch panna cotta with poached pears, chocolate and fig tart with homemade jam and other desserts. Have you tried port wine ? Which is your favourite type of port wine let me know in the comments below! Cheers #sonalholland #masterofwine #portwine #winelovers #wineknowledge #wineexpert #winetips #portugal

7 golden rules of wine storage: Preserving and improving the drinkability of wine: We recently opened the last bottle of a great Pinot Blanc from last year at a friend's house, but there was nothing of the taste of the originally great wine left. The fruitiness had disappeared, the wine was boring and stale. What had happened? The last bottle had been sitting by the window in the warm kitchen for months. ... Almost everyone who likes to drink wine has experienced something like this. What's behind it, why does it happen? Wine is constantly evolving in the bottle, changing its taste and developing its drinking maturity. Some wines have already reached their optimum drinking maturity when they are purchased - young, fruity white wines, for example. Other wines are designed for a long development and only develop their full aroma and taste potential after years - these are the top white and red wines. Spain, the largest wine-growing country in the world with 955,000 hectares in 2023*, has focused its quality legislation for wine very strongly on wine storage: A Gran Reserva from Rioja must be aged in the bottle for at least two years before it can be sold as a Gran Reserva. Good wine storage therefore protects my wines from negative influences, ensures that my wines have optimal development conditions and that a good taste experience is maintained or improved over time. Incorrect wine storage ruins wines, they become unpalatable within a short time. In our series of articles, we would like to explain what you need to bear in mind when storing wine correctly: The 7 golden rules of wine storage. Stay tuned - every week there we will bring you new exciting articles on the subject of wine storage via our national and international social media channels. * Source OIV Stefan Woschek Martin Kern Nicole Rüster Sascha Kahl Elisabeth Hildebrand #Drinkingmaturity #7winestoragerules #winestorage #wineenjoyment #wineknowledge #winetips
