As we observe the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we are reminded of the pain caused by violence, domination, and the silencing of voices. This day is not only about reflecting on the tragic impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities and acknowledging the deep wounds that persist but also a call to action for each of us. 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 means acknowledging the painful history and the stories of loss, but also the incredible resilience and the long road to healing that Indigenous communities have shown. 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 means walking that road together, with each of us playing a part, fostering understanding, and creating a future rooted in respect and unity. Let today be a reminder that healing requires effort and that we can contribute to meaningful change through education, empathy, and solidarity. Let’s remember that empathy is a powerful tool in our journey towards reconciliation. #EveryChildMatters #TruthAndReconciliation #HonoringIndigenousVoices #HealingTogether

As teachers, school leaders and students take a break, the Directorate First Nations Education is busy creating and updating learning journey resources. One of the learning journey resources is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. We are having a play with a template using the power of 5: five important things to know, five goals, five strengths etc. The resource will support activities/experiences for a Year 7 transition day for First Nations students. Today, on National Truth and Reconciliation Day, we honour the survivors of the residential school system and remember those who never returned. Acknowledging the injustices inflicted upon Indigenous communities is essential, but acknowledgment alone is not enough. Reconciliation demands that we confront our shared history and actively work to build a better future. This day reminds us of the vital importance of listening, learning, and building genuine partnerships that respect and support Indigenous rights and communities. We invite everyone to reflect on their role in reconciliation and take meaningful steps towards a shared future of equity and respect. To implement tangible actions that support Indigenous self-determination and prosperity, invest in community-led initiatives, and create spaces for Indigenous voices at all levels of decision-making. By working together, we can forge a future of shared prosperity and mutual respect. #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation #Reconciliation #IndigenousRights #ERIF #Community #EveryChildMatters
