Powder-based additive manufacturing with polymers - this topic was addressed in a multifaceted certificate course last week. The two seminar days were part of the certificate course “Additive Manufacturing” offered by IHK-Akademie Mittelfranken. In cooperation with AMbitious powered by toolcraft, this course provided the basics of additive manufacturing with both metals and polymers. In a balanced combination of theoretical and practical modules, we presented the process fundamentals of the Selective Laser Sintering and relevant properties of polymers. We worked together on methods for the material characterization, the slicing process and build job preparation, post-processing steps in SLS and possibilities for the qualification of the manufactured samples. This gave the participants a comprehensive insight into the SLS processes and key properties. We congratulate the participants to their certificates and look back on two exciting days with many fruitful discussions. #PolymerTechnology #AdditiveManufacturing #IHK #Seminar #Certificate

Wayland Additive is proud to announce that Fraunhofer IPK has acquired a Calibur3 metal eBeam additive manufacturing (AM) system. As a leading research institution specialising in production technology, Fraunhofer IPK is perfectly positioned to leverage the unique benefits of the NeuBeam® process delivered by the Calibur3 system. The addition of the Calibur3 will support Fraunhofer IPK’s mission to provide innovative production solutions tailored to its industrial partners' needs. The institute will focus on exploring new metal AM applications with eBeam technology, building on its extensive expertise in laser-based AM for challenging alloys. With the NeuBeam® process, Fraunhofer IPK can push beyond the physical limits of laser-based systems, unlocking the potential to work with advanced materials such as titanium aluminides and CM247. One standout advantage of NeuBeam® technology is the elimination of the full sinter cake post-build, significantly reducing post-processing time and costs. This allows for the efficient production of intricate geometries, even those with delicate internal structures. This collaboration reflects the growing demand for advanced AM technologies and materials, and Wayland Additive is excited to support Fraunhofer IPK as they pioneer new applications and materials, driving the boundaries of what’s possible in metal AM. I'm happy to share that I've completed "Additive Manufacturing Specialization" from Arizona State University. This specialization is composed of five courses: (1) Introduction to Additive Manufacturing Processes (2) Material Extrusion (3) Material Jetting and Stereolithography (4) Selective Laser Sintering and Metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion (5) Design for Additive Manufacturing. The above-mentioned courses bring me lots of knowledge how to compare and contrast different AM processes, a typical AM process flow, the applications of the DfAM framework to make AM decisions. #AdditiveManufacturing #ProfessionalDevelopment

Wayland Additive has announced the purchase of a Calibur3 metal eBeam additive manufacturing (AM) system by Fraunhofer IPK (Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology IPK). As a leading research and development institution for production technology, Fraunhofer IPK is ideally placed to utilise the distinct advantages of the NeuBeam process that are delivered with the Calibur3 system. Fraunhofer IPK said it is dedicated to finding and delivering production solutions tailored to meet the needs and requirements of its industrial customers and partners. This is achieved through research that is application-oriented and the delivery of the Calibur3 system will specifically focus on new metal AM applications with eBeam technology. In recent years, IPK has conducted a lot of research into laser-based AM applications with difficult-to-weld alloys. However, they are starting to reach the physical limits of this technology. Its team believes that the investment in the NeuBeam production technology from Wayland will increase the range of materials that can be processed with AM, particularly specifying titanium aluminides and CM247, among others. 💡Conformal Cooling Channels Prepared by CSAM 💪 - Additive manufacturing is about creating complex shapes and adding features that would otherwise be impossible to do. Hollow structures and conformal cooling channels are often used to improve strength-to-weight ratios and heat management.- Alexandre Nascimento, Manufacturing Scientist at Polycontrols Conformal cooling channels follow the contour of parts ensuring uniform and efficient cooling while enhancing the performance and lifespan of products. These channels find applications in 🌟 Injection Molding 🌟 Aerospace 🌟 Electronics industries. Polycontrols has leveraged Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing to prepare conformal channels which can be prepared: ✅ From scratch or onto pre-existing components. ✅ With high deposition rates and low process temperatures. ✅ Having virtually, NO SIZE LIMITATIONS. While the concept is simple, several parameters are critical to guarantee the integrity of the channels and to maximize the heat exchange. Still, producing cooling channels with cold spray is feasible and exciting! Do you want to explore how cold sprayed cooling channels can optimize heat exchange on your tool?
