On 13 and 14 November, the LKT organized a seminar on the preparation and microscopy of polymers. The focus of the seminar was on teaching practical skills for the optimal implementation of the examination methods presented and the exchange of experience. In addition to introductory lectures on topics such as the basics and importance of light microscopy in plastics testing, practical work was carried out in small groups on sample preparation and microscopes. Our recent paper was published in JPCC, where we focused on the interaction between surfactant coating and various single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) ranging from small to large diameters. We first initiated experimental probing of these interactions, but encountered limitations/challenges in achieving robust results due to a few reasons, which were not discussed in the published article. Nevertheless, this article represents several milestones, including: • Developing a methodology based on #machine_learning for cluster analysis on colloid solutions to determine #micelle_aggregation_numbers. • Generating a unique #morphology_diagram attempting to correlate the amount of surfactant adsorbed on nanotubes with their diameter through extensive MD simulations with half a million atoms! • Determining that surfactant coating on nanotubes is a #blend_of_phases as we transition from their surface to the bulk environment. I have several ideas for future work and am also excited to see what other researchers can contribute, both experimentally and computationally to investigate such system in more depth.
