Rethink Ireland, in collaboration with Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí, is thrilled to announce the support of five pioneering non-profit projects addressing green and digital transitions in Cork through the SEFIT- Ireland & Italy (Social Ecosystems for Fair and Inclusive Transitions) Challenge Fund. This €400,000 fund, part of a 10-month pilot between Cork and Turin, Italy, co-funded by the European Union, aims to foster an equitable and inclusive future by supporting initiatives that bridge community and technology gaps. These projects include diverse innovations from digital training for the Deaf community by Cork Deaf Enterprises to environmental education by ECO-UNESCO, reflecting a broad commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth. Each project, running from August 2024 to May 2025, will receive financial and non-financial support to scale their social impact. Initiatives like the International Garden by the Cork Migrant Centre and Cork Community TV, The Toy Library's sustainable toy exchange are set to transform local communities by promoting environmental sustainability and digital inclusivity. Lord Mayor Dan Boyle and Rethink Ireland's Senior Philanthropy Manager, Padraic Vallely, commend these projects as models of community-driven change, enhancing Cork's resilience and inclusivity. Limited funding, this can greatly hinder ability to implement most of our projects and campaigns effectively, so majorly we try to for seek grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and also crowd funding. Building a strong relationship with the communities and showcasing the impact of our work has also attracted more help. 2. Limited Resources, in terms of personell, , but collaborating with organizations, schools , the different government departments, and recruitment of volunteers has strengthened our capabilities as an organization 3. Climate Change and Environmental Degradation, addressing the causes which in most cases has been the source of income for most of the people has been really tough, but we try our best to advocate for environmental communities through community barazas, policy reforms, and majorly promoting sustainable practices,(grassroot activism) 4. Long- term sustainability, establishing achievable goals, and adapting strategies have been really essential.

Exciting developments in philanthropy! 🌟 At the recent #ConnectToChange conference in Switzerland, over 60 foundations explored the potential of Public-Private-Philanthropy Partnerships (PPPPs). The escalating complexities within the grantmaking space, driven by deepening socio-economic disparities and persistent social injustices, urgently demand a fundamental reevaluation of traditional philanthropic strategies. This compels grantmakers to adopt trust-based approaches, strategically navigating a landscape fraught with significant risks. It is imperative that grantmakers enact decisive, strategic actions that emphasize social justice and the comprehensive restructuring of our practices. Adopting emergent giving vehicles is now essential, providing innovative methodologies crucial for amplifying our impact and ensuring the sustainability of our work. Thus, the 2024 Grantmakers Summit, 'Strategic Philanthropy in a Dynamic Era'—scheduled for July 8th-9th in Nairobi—is the ideal environment for ideation, collaboration, and action. Are you a grantmaker, operating on national, regional, continental, or global scales? We warmly invite you to join us as we confront and reshape the established paradigms of philanthropy. Following the success of its Global Summit in Bogotá last December, the #ShiftThePower campaign is now continuing on the “road after Bogotá”, with a series of events and initiatives that shine a light on how the current international development funding system can be reshaped in favour of #GlobalSouth actors and with #equity at its core. This week, on the 18th of April, organisations and individuals affiliated with the #ShiftThePower movement came together to explore alternative models of measuring and evaluating the success of locally-led initiatives. Too often, existing donor-driven approaches have vied for rigid and top-down ways of measuring success, at the expense of civil societies’ actual needs. Countering this tendency, the #ShiftThePower webinar explored pioneering models of M&E based on shared frameworks between donors and communities, drawing on existing examples from Brazil, Kenya, and Indonesia. 🔗Head to the The Global Fund for Community Foundations website for more resources on measurement and shifting power: https://lnkd.in/dR3tZJns #InternationalDevelopment #Aid #Equity

Unrestricted funding enables nonprofits and organizations to address complex challenges more effectively. EGA member, Shena Cavallo of Global Greengrants Fund co-authors this insightful article, which outlines the problems that arise from restricted funding, and how flexible funding can support more effective partnerships for lasting change. Restricted funding can have several implications, such as: • Driving competition and making collaboration more challenging • Forcing organizations to navigate complex funding requirements which diverts their time away from impactful work • Hindering effective rapid response to emergencies or security threats that activists, organizations, and movements can face “It is critical that donors understand how highly restricted funding — when it is the norm instead of the exception — can hinder and even undermine the intended impact of their investments, especially at the grassroots level. “ 👉Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eFiwtcGy
