🎉 Celebrating Success in Port Pirie! 🎓 Graduations are always a special moment, but last week’s SkillUp for Service in Regional SA graduation at the Parham Centre, Port Pirie, was truly something to remember. Over 13 weeks, participants worked hard, grew together, and achieved something incredible—and we couldn’t be prouder! This program isn’t just about learning new skills; it’s about the journey. With the unwavering support of the SkillUp team of Sachin and Graham, participants not only gained valuable knowledge for the service industry but also built confidence, overcame challenges, and formed strong bonds along the way. And those achievements and the bonds formed between participants and the trainers was clear to see at the graduation. The Local Jobs program was grateful to attend the graduation and support SkillUp bringing this program to Port Pirie. Supported by the South Australian Government, programs like this make a real difference by empowering people with skills that open doors to new opportunities. Congratulations to SkillUp and to the graduates—you’ve shown resilience, determination, and heart. The future is yours, and we can’t wait to see what you do next! 💪

I am honored to be celebrating a little over one month with the Portland State University’s Center for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE) so I thought I would take this opportunity to share a bit about what CEPE is and why the work I do is important to me in case anyone reading this might be curious. At CEPE, we offer high-quality classes and educational experiences for teams, aspiring leaders, and anyone wanting to advance their careers. In this rapidly changing world, career development is more important than ever. To me, it’s more than that. What sets CEPE apart, in my opinion, is the personal element and the way inclusivity is promoted. This isn’t just an abstract concept to me. Several years ago, long before I ever knew I’d be working here, I had the great honor of taking one of CEPE’s Custom Education programs and, I’m not even exaggerating, it completely changed my life. I was in a new role, a new profession, and facing a new level of visibility as my authentic self. I found my voice in that class, I bonded with my teammates, and the things I learned with the facilitation of the amazing instructor dramatically shifted the way I saw myself, not only in a professional setting, but in life more generally. There’s another benefit of quality professional education that is also dear to my heart: it has less barriers that stand in the way of where we are now and where we want to be headed. For me, the challenging past couple of years led me to a place where I was giving up hope. What hope I was able to uncover was in the form of a realization that I was at a stage in life where I needed to level up my career through professional development or education of some kind. As many of you know, I am grateful for the opportunity to have started graduate school this year, but I recognize that pursuing that route was the result of both miraculous events and the privilege I am fortunate enough to have. If a few things had been different, it would have been completely out of my reach. The classes at CEPE I am honored to now support remove many of those barriers to help professional education be more attainable for more people. It’s a journey, this life, but I am grateful for places like CEPE and the places in the world where everyone is given an equitable chance at the life they’re meant to live. This role here for me at CEPE definitely feels, to borrow a phrase from Nicole Sisco, MA, MBA, like I’ve found a seat on the lifeboat after being lost at sea. I imagine many of the students who have taken our classes that have opened new doors feel much the same way. For these reasons and so many more, I am so grateful for the lifeboat I have found in my team at CEPE and I hope everyone can experience this kind of professional fulfillment.
