A study by a fuel poverty charity has reported that millions of households in England will still be in fuel poverty by the end of the decade and could be forced to pay almost £500 a year extra on their energy bills. This is unless the government begins making quicker progress on meeting its home energy efficiency targets. The report urged the government to address a funding gap of at least £18bn needed to undertake enough measures to ensure that fuel-poor homes in England are brought up to a reasonable standard of energy efficiency by the end of this decade. This is something we feel very strongly about at Ecogee, and we believe no one should have to choose between eating and heating. We’ll continue to do all we can to install energy efficiency measures for households that are eligible throughout the Liverpool City Region. https://lnkd.in/eiJmn_35 #Ecogee #ECO #EnergyBusiness #Liverpool #NorthWest #Energy #FuelPoverty #EnergyEfficiency

It’s easy to dismiss heating fuel poverty in July, especially as we are mere weeks removed from the heat dome that lingered overhead, resulting in sweltering temperatures across the country’s eastern half. But if you think back a bit further, you’ll likely recall two spring snow and ice storms that left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity, many for several days, and you may remember just how important having a reliable heat source is in Maine. Winter can be brutal for many Mainers as fuel costs for heating their homes stretch their already thin budgets to a breaking point. Add in increasingly damaging weather patterns that cause property damage and knock out power, often resulting in food losses that only compound the financial strain that winter can bring. According to a 2019 Maine Low-Income Home Energy Burden Study, low-income households in Maine have an average energy burden of 19%, much higher than the 6% average for all Maine households.(...) EnergyAce are proud to sponsor National Energy Action (NEA), a charity committed to eradicating fuel poverty. Their Impact Report 2023-24 highlights the vital work they've done and the challenges they face. It's clear that the NEA is more important than ever, as last winter, 6.5 million UK households were in fuel poverty, with domestic energy prices reaching £1,928 and energy debt levels soaring to £3.1bn. NEA’s Chief Executive, Adam Scorer, shared: "This impact report shows our achievements over the past year, supporting those in crisis and working with partners for long-term solutions. We have grown significantly, providing more support than ever before." Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/3SpKbna #FuelPoverty #EnergyEfficiency #CommunitySupport

Miatta Fahnbulleh, MP for Peckham and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Energy Consumers at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (ESNZ), recently visited one of our Fuel Bank Centres in South London to discuss the issues faced by people living in fuel crisis. During the visit, we heard first-hand how fuel poverty and fuel crisis is ‘becoming the norm’ and accepted by people who feel like they have no way out. We also heard examples of people regularly going without because they can’t afford to top up their prepayment energy meter, such as those who live on cold sandwiches because they don’t have the means to cook a meal or pensioners who are isolated and cold but are too proud to admit they need help. Sadly, these examples aren't unique to Peckham. Read more about Miatta's visit in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/eTQhcvRd #FuelPoverty #FuelBank #Charity #EnergyCrisis #EnergyPrices

Millions of households will still be living in fuel poverty by the end of this decade, according to a study carried out by National Energy Action (NEA). 😱 And those hard-hit homeowners could be facing the prospect of somehow having to find an extra £480 a year to meet their fuel bills. That’s down to the government’s slow progress on meeting its home energy efficiency targets, report the NEA. 🏘️ 🧱 The fuel poverty charity expects that three million households in England will find themselves still stranded in fuel poverty by 2030 because the government’s legally binding target on upgrading the energy efficiency of homes [for ‘fuel-poor homes’ to reach an EPC rating of C by the decade’s end] will be missed “by a staggering margin”. ⏳ The report, undertaken by NEA by consultants at Gemserv, pointed out that the government needs to address a funding gap of at least £18 billion in order to undertake the necessary measures to ensure that the recognised ‘fuel-poor homes’ in England are brought up to a reasonable standard of energy efficiency by the end of this decade. The NEA’s findings suggest that unless there is real action then England’s poorest households could be left paying – on average - £480 more a year on their gas and electricity bills because they are trapped in “cold, damp and unhealthy” homes. ➡ Across the Westdale Group (which includes our companies Westdale North Limited and Westdale Midlands), we are committed to tackling fuel poverty by providing better home insulation and other key efficiency solutions. The Conversation (UK) Fuel poverty: as government support dries up, communities are taking action More than two million people will be cut off from their gas and electricity this winter because they can’t afford to top up their prepayment meter. That’s according to a report from the charity Citizens Advice, which says it is helping more people than ever who cannot pay for energy. Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) suggests that lone parents (75%), renters (60%), disabled adults (54%), and Black, African, Caribbean, or Black British adults (58%) are more likely to report difficulties in affording their energy payments compared to the national average of 43%. Fortunately, others are taking action. Community Energy England, a not-for-profit company, providesfreeresources for people who want to start community energy projects. One example, Brighton Energy Co-op, has invested in the installation of solar panels on buildings, ranging from schools to blocks of flats and even a football stadium. Money raised from selling this electricity has helped repay investors and funded insulation and other energy efficiency improvements for vulnerable people.
