>> CORESTA Congress 2024: Advancing Next Generation Product Evaluation Last week, we had the pleasure of participating in the “CORESTA Congress 2024”, organized by the “Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco”. The event brought together over 500 delegates from more than 30 countries, including representatives from companies, research institutes, laboratories, associations, and regulatory bodies, all of whom gathered at the Edinburgh International Convention Centre. We were happy to connect and exchange ideas with many esteemed research partners, particularly in the field of in vitro inhalation research. Our collaborative poster with Alexis Technologies , which showcased the application of the AlveoliX AX12 breathing lung-on-chip for whole aerosols, received a great deal of positive attention. Link to poster: https://lnkd.in/eSaSxKsx A special thanks to David Smart from BAT for his insightful presentation on "In vitro assessment of cigarette smoke using an adverse outcome pathway for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease." His discussion featured the VC10 Smoking Robot with the VC48 Exposure System, a highlight of the congress. Additionally, it was exciting to see Vitrocell exposure devices featured in posters from: > Shigeaki Ito ( Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT) ) Link to poster: https://lnkd.in/erqNZCjH > Michael Hollings ( Labcorp ) Link to poster: https://lnkd.in/efKachJv > Adam Seymour ( Labcorp ) Link to poster: https://lnkd.in/ejxawnjE We truly appreciate their valuable contributions to the event. Looking back, it was an intense yet rewarding few days filled with first-class scientific discussions and innovations. We look forward to continuing these important conversations in the future! #invitro #toxicology #TobaccoHarmReduction #RegulatoryScience

Snakebites injure up to 2.7 million and kill 81,000 to 138,000 people annually, with many venoms causing blood toxicity. In this video, we show a timelapse of a human endothelial tubule - MIMETAS' OrganoReady® Blood Vessel HUVEC platform - exposed to spitting cobra venom in the latest experiment of Flavio Bonanini in collaboration with Matyas Bittenbinder. This innovative research sheds light on the devastating effects of snakebites worldwide, offering a robust and human-relevant platform to study endothelial toxicity and potentially develop life-saving antidotes. ☀️ The Alcohol Essentials Series Starts Now!☀️ The first course to launch in the Alcohol Pharmacokinetics section is Alcohol Absorption, presented by the distinguished Dr. Joey Jones, Director of the Northern Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory. We are fortunate to have some amazing instructors from around the country present this critical content. Participants of this course will learn about different routes of alcohol administration, the role of the gastrointestinal tract, and other physiological considerations. Significant attention is devoted to understanding factors that do and do not affect the extent and rate of alcohol absorption. The course concludes with a review of best practices in considering alcohol absorption. This foundational course enhances understanding of the behavioral and physiological factors associated with alcohol absorption and will improve investigation, interpretation, and testimony in cases regarding alcohol impairment. This course is live now, with many more to follow. We’re very excited to attend EUROTOX 2024, in Copenhagen! 🌍 If you're attending, don’t miss our exhibitor hosted session on Monday 9th September, 12:00 – 13:00 which will discuss ‘Leveraging NAMs to optimise and accelerate safety assessments for carcinogenicity and other complex endpoints’. New approach methodologies (#NAMs), also known as non-animal studies, are increasingly gaining acceptance for human chemical safety assessment. As scientific advancements continue, regulatory guidelines are evolving to incorporate weight-of-evidence (WoE) approaches, reducing the reliance on traditional animal assays. In this session, Dr Alex Cayley and Toni Rogers will highlight the value of using a weight-of-evidence approach to optimise and expediate safety assessments. In addition, they'll present a compelling carcinogenicity case study, focusing on early screening and ICH S1B assessments, demonstrating the practical application of a WoE approach. ✅ Additionally, you'll discover how Lhasa’s innovative in silico solution, #Kaptis, enables confident and informed safety decisions by contextualizing NAMs within an Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) framework.
