Some experiences aren’t just about the result, they’re about what you take away from them. A few weeks ago, our team secured the First Runner-Up position in Quintessence – Pinnacle of Competence, organized by the Competency Development Committee at Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi. Over multiple rounds, we analyzed Titan Company Limited, breaking down its challenges, crafting solutions, and mapping out a detailed implementation plan. Each step required us to think critically, communicate clearly, and trust each other’s strengths as a team. One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning how to structure complex ideas into a clear, compelling narrative. It’s easy to get lost in data and details, but this experience taught me the value of simplicity, presenting insights in a way that’s both impactful and easy to follow. The final round, where we presented to the jury and the entire batch, was a true test of confidence and clarity. Moments like these remind me how important it is to believe in your ideas and communicate them effectively. Anushka Sharma, Ishika Gupta, Saloni Garg, and Tejaswini Sharma, participants of IRMA's 45th batch (2024-2026) in the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural Management) – PGDM(RM) – have been declared second runners-up in the Strategy Paradox competition by IIM Mumbai. The competition challenged participants' business acumen, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities through a series of rigorous rounds. It began with the Treasure Hunt, a dynamic quiz designed to test business knowledge, aptitude, general awareness, and creative thinking. In the second round, participants analysed a complex business problem and submitted a 4-5 slide presentation. Eight teams with the most innovative solutions advanced to the finals. The final round required the shortlisted teams to prepare and pitch comprehensive solutions to a panel of esteemed judges, with evaluations focusing on feasibility, scalability, and effectiveness. Competing against 517 teams, the team of Anushka, Ishika, Saloni, and Tejaswini showcased exceptional analytical and strategic skills, securing the second runners-up position. You DON'T need skills but THIS secret ingredient to be successful. You might not agree with me, but hear me out. I attended the finals of Tata Imagination Challenge 2024 on Tuesday, where I interacted with the top 50 finalists. They were full of enthusiasm and energy, putting forward their best to ace India’s largest idea challenge. Later in the evening, a session by Harish Bhat enlightened us on how Tata Group leaders have consistently pioneered industry-first ideas, from introducing the provident fund, to building India’s own car, and even establishing the TAS leadership program before the country’s oldest IIM was founded. I took the opportunity to interact with Harish Bhat, a fellow alumni from my college, an avid marketer, best-selling author, and former brand custodian of India’s most valuable brand, TATA. I asked him what it takes to become a successful person like him. To my surprise, he humbly said one doesn’t need skills to be successful. Skills, he explained, can be built over time. What matters more is the attitude and execution. I was taken aback by his perspective, and I couldn’t agree more, especially being a part of the TAS program, where we’re exposed to various domains where our skills might not lie, but what’s valued more is the ‘let’s try and do this’ attitude. Reflecting on the Tata Crucible 2024 Cluster Finale I witnessed as an audience today at The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) SeleQtions Ambassador Hotel Delhi. It was truly an exhilarating experience. With teams representing prestigious organisations from UP Delhi and Punjab, the event was brimming with intellect, camaraderie, and leadership ethos. With The QuizMaster Giri 'Pickbrain' Balasubramaniam and Rashmi Furtado who is presently the only professional woman quiz host in Asia, it was organised with a lot of zeal and energy. The theme for this year's Tata Crucible, "Think, Collaborate, and Lead," resonated profoundly throughout the competition. It emphasized the essential qualities required not just to succeed in a quiz format but also in the broader landscape of life and business. The average age of the two winners around 40 plus also highlighted that despite long Corporate hours and staying in an organisation for more than a decade, staying curious and updated is so crucial to make a difference. One of the most remarkable moments of the event was witnessing the UP region winner, achieving the highest-ever score in the Tata Crucible quiz history of the last 20 years. His accomplishment not only showcased his individual brilliance but also underscored the power of teamwork and collaboration within his organization. The journey to the Cluster Finale was rigorous, with teams battling it out through rounds of intense quizzing and strategic thinking. The competition wasn't just about answering questions; it was about leveraging collective knowledge, brainstorming ideas, and fostering innovation. The top three teams emerging from the Cluster Finale have earned the honor of representing their regions at the National Finale in Mumbai. This accomplishment speaks volumes about their ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, and lead with conviction. Apart from the main competition, I had the privilege of participating in the audience engagement segment to passing unanswered questions. By responding to questions, I was fortunate to win the Audience token of recognition—a testament to the power of active participation and continuous learning. As we move forward, let us continue to embrace the ethos of thinking critically, collaborating purposefully, and leading with integrity. I have been participating in this quiz for the last 3 editions making it to cluster prelims 2 rounds. I hope to reach this phase in the next editions. On 4 January 2024, I participated in an exciting business game at IBS( ICFAI Business School)Ahmedabad, organized by AIMA(All India Management Association). This game simulated a market environment with 12 teams, each representing a company. Over four rounds, simulating four quarters, we had to make critical business decisions about pricing and production for three products. Role and Experience: As the captain and CEO of my team, I led our decision-making process. Each team’s decisions impacted the entire simulated market. At the end of each quarter, we received a balance sheet detailing our company's performance. Team members : Maharshi Raval , Bhavy Patel , Vanshita Rathod Highlights: - Team Structure: Each team had four members representing different roles. - Decision Making: Setting prices and manufacturing quantities while considering market impacts. - Performance Evaluation:Reviewing and understanding our balance sheet and overall performance. This experience was invaluable, especially as a science student. It was my first time seeing a balance sheet and understanding how it’s calculated.
