Today, I want to highlight an important truth: racism is not innate; it's a learned behavior. As parents, educators, and mentors, we have a crucial role in shaping the perspectives of our young children. This is the story my little girl Eva picked her first time at a school library. She doesn’t see colour she sees a book that she wants to read because of it’s beautiful cover. So it’s for me to ensure her biases are positive ones. Children absorb attitudes and biases from the world around them, and it’s our responsibility to foster an environment of understanding, empathy, and inclusivity. White privilege means having opportunities that are often inaccessible to others because of systemic inequalities. We must educate our children about this privilege and the impact it has on society. By encouraging open conversations about diversity and equity, we empower the next generation to challenge stereotypes and embrace differences. Let’s commit to teaching kindness and respect, and dismantle racism together.
