At the recent Delphi Economic Forum, our Managing Director, Stylianos Papageorgiou, shared invaluable perspectives on navigating new energy regulations in the shipping industry. Stylianos shared our groundbreaking approach as a catalyst propelling maritime innovation and sustainability through strategic collaboration with tech startups developing solutions for decarbonisation and innovation. Our key challenge is aligning these advancements with evolving regulations and industry standards. Lomar offers its fleet for pilot studies, a "floating lab" to help startups refine their technologies for both technical and commercial viability. Stylianos further stressed the need to move beyond the "innovate-by-regulation" approach and how achieving ambitious sustainability goals requires a proactive industry that embraces solutions that make both regulatory and "maritime sense." lomarlabs fosters collaboration between startups, established players, and regulators to unlock innovation for a sustainable maritime industry. Together, we can build a cleaner and more efficient future for shipping. #lomarlabs #DelphiEconomicForum #ShippingInnovation #Sustainability #Collaboration #Lomar

Exciting times with the new Work Programme from EIC! Increased budget, new challenges for early stage research and a new funding programme STEP so that tech companies can scale with the support of public funding. We are still not there compared to other global powers in innovation, but this is the right direction! #innovation #r&d #universities
🚀 Excited to announce that the European Innovation Council (EIC) will be investing €1.4 billion in breakthrough innovation across Europe in 2025 after the Commission adopted the new Work Programme today. This funding, part of Horizon Europe, targets deep tech and strategic technologies essential for Europe’s competitiveness. Key features include: ☑️ STEP Scale-up Scheme: €300 million in total for equity investment in companies driving strategic technologies, to help them secure larger private co-investment. ☑️ EIC Pathfinder: €262 million in total for early-stage, multi-disciplinary research that could lead to technology breakthroughs. €120 million of this in “EIC Challenges” funding for emerging tech (e.g., autonomous construction robots, climate-resilient crops). ☑️ EIC Accelerator: €634 million for start-ups and SMEs to commercialise and scale innovations, with investments up to €10 million. €250 million of this funding for early-stage companies in sectors such as AI and future mobility. ☑️ EIC Transition: €98 million to turn research results into innovation opportunities. ☑️ Increased access to business acceleration services for emerging companies from ‘widening countries’. Read more here 👉 europa.eu/!g9tx6q The EIC has emerged as a gamechanger in EU support to breakthrough innovation, and this new Work Programme will make it go even further. The targeted support, especially through the STEP scale-up call, will help bridge critical funding gaps and build a stronger, more resilient innovation ecosystem in Europe. #EUInnovation #HorizonEurope #DeepTech #EIC #InnovationForEurope

I’m encouraged by the EIC's newly adopted work programme for 2025. With a record budget of €1.4 billion, including a €200 million increase, it represents a strong commitment to supporting deep tech research and high-potential start-ups across Europe. However, while this programme holds promise, we must also consider how effectively these funds will reach European innovators in an increasingly competitive global landscape. Some key highlights and considerations: 🔹 EIC STEP scale-up scheme: A €300 million initiative targeting strategic technology development is a welcome step, but its impact hinges on whether investment strategies can adapt swiftly to evolving market demands and reduce dependency on non-European tech. 🔹 Updated EIC challenges: With €120 million for emerging tech like autonomous robotics and climate-resilient crops, and €250 million for early-stage ventures, it’s essential that this funding aligns with pressing market needs, not just popular tech trends. 🔹 Expanded business acceleration access: Broadening access for companies in widening countries is commendable, though it’s crucial to ensure these services deliver meaningful support and are more than a checkbox in the EU’s inclusivity goals. 🔹 Seals of excellence: While these seals provide access to additional funding sources, a key question is whether they simplify financial access for innovators or add complexity to the funding process. Funding breakdown: 📌 EIC Pathfinder: €262 million for multidisciplinary research teams is an important step; however, it will require stringent evaluation to ensure top projects receive adequate support. 📌 EIC Transition: With €98 million to convert research results into real-world innovations, effective coordination with existing frameworks is essential to prevent overlap. 📌 EIC Accelerator: €634 million dedicated to start-ups and SMEs is substantial, yet we must remain watchful to ensure this funding directly supports early-stage innovators rather than being absorbed by larger entities. Eager to see how these initiatives unfold . A robust framework is in place; now we must focus on execution to ensure these funds foster genuine innovation and resilience across Europe.
