Lonely Whale’s Post

This fall has been full of opportunities to connect with our community of collaborators, and it was wonderful to be back at See Change Sessions this year—an event that always leaves our team inspired and brimming with new ideas. Our Prize Director Tim Silman, MPP, MBA joined Sebastien Bregeaud of Notpla, a TOM FORD Plastic Innovation Prize, powered by Lonely Whale, winner, Early Adopter partners Atlantic Packaging and Burton Snowboards, and a host of friends both old and new, in exploring and developing a new vision for the future of sustainable packaging, and environmental sustainability as a whole. Our key takeaways? 🤝 Carving out space and time to connect is critical Taking time to connect to the outdoors, ourselves, and each other can refresh enthusiasm for our work and purpose. We left inspired and optimistic, but still grounded and ready to roll up our sleeves. 📦 We need to tackle incentives for #innovation in new ways In the context of packaging, cost and scale remain the biggest obstacles for the sustainable transition. But with new regulations in Europe coming online and projected to spread out to other pockets of the globe, there may be opportunities that emerge beyond the obvious that we aren’t seeing yet to leverage this as an inflection point. We didn’t come up with the answers, but we’re hopeful! 🎬 #Storytelling and #culture need to reflect the process, not just the end result Marketing most often centers on products alone but to embed sustainability into culture, the process of product creation is a valuable and underutilized storytelling element. Going from raw materials to a product at your doorstep is kind of magic! We’ve peeled back layers of that story together with our Prize winners and Early Adopter Coalition members, like Burton Snowboards, as part of our Unwrap the Future program. Diving deep into connection, innovation, and storytelling is critical to embedding sustainability and culture. And, ICYMI, regulations, particularly in Europe, will require changes in storytelling, so now is the time to activate a new approach. What would you add to the list above? Share in the comments.

We are so happy to be apart of this conversation with you at such a great event!

Relationships first. That’s why we blend work and play—because real connections aren’t built by watching a panel. As always, it was a pleasure to have you in the crew. ✌
