NHS England’s latest campaign focuses on the critical importance of recognising stroke symptoms and emphasises the need to call 999 if you notice any one sign. Dr. Amir Khan is leading the charge in a new video, engaging with South Asian communities to ask whether they feel confident in spotting the early signs of a stroke. Dr. Khan highlights how raising awareness within South Asian communities is a crucial step toward saving lives: “A stroke strikes every five minutes in the UK, and we know that our community is at greater risk of stroke, at a younger age. So, it’s crucial that we’re all aware of the symptoms and that we call 999 without delay. The first sign of a stroke actually might not seem like much, but every minute is vital – getting quick access to specialist treatment can be lifesaving and can reduce long-term disability. Our landmark State of VAD report is being launched this morning at Parliament House. It shows more than 2,460 terminally ill Australians have ended their life using voluntary assisted dying (VAD) since the choice was legalised. ·       A typical VAD applicant is aged 70-79 years, more likely to be male, and have cancer ·       The majority are well educated, speak English as their preferred language and around 4 in 5 (79%) are receiving palliative care ·       Health professionals are delivering compassionate care to people who seek this choice. Dr Linda Swan, Go Gentle Australia’s CEO, said: “The evidence collected paints a reassuring picture... None of the dire predictions from opponents have come to pass and systems are working safely and with great compassion.” There are, however, a number of barriers to access for otherwise eligible people, and a funding shortfall for VAD providers risks the sustainability of services. Though it’s a difficult read, there’s a powerful message here. https://lnkd.in/eM3ZnSHf Parents and carers know their children best. They can often spot subtle signs that may go unnoticed by others—things only a parent would sense. As Dr Ron Daniels BEM, CEO of The UK Sepsis Trust, explains, children sometimes hide symptoms differently from adults, meaning their illness might not be recognised until later stages. That’s why it’s so essential to take families’ concerns seriously. Raising concerns about your child’s health is an act of love and advocacy. If you’re worried, speak up and keep seeking the support you need. The introduction of #MarthasRule across hospitals in England is a positive step, but there’s still more work to be done to ensure that families have the right to request a review when something doesn’t feel right. Patient led organisations, including Long Covid Kids support this need, reminding us that every concern matters. Let’s remember: It’s okay to seek reassurance and medical attention. No one knows your child like you do, and your voice can be vital in their care journey. As part of our commitment to children and young people, we are calling for the UK Covid-19 Inquiry to ensure that any future pandemic recommendations recognise, accept, and consider the weight of patient evidence for any emerging health condition.
