Lighting Design Viewing Tower Binnenhof, The Hague Binnenhof, the Dutch political centre for centuries, remains a major attraction for visitors to The Hague even during its renovation. The Rijksvastgoedbedrijf is working closely with the Gemeente Den Haag, local residents, and entrepreneurs to keep the area appealing. One of the highlights of the plans is the new viewpoint, which will offer tourists a different perspective on the heart of our democracy in the coming years. On behalf of the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf, STUDIO DL | Lighting Design has developed a lighting design for this eye-catching feature, allowing this 'yellow ribbon' to be admired even during the evening hours. The mood image below provides an impression of the lighting design, which will be realized in the coming months. The lighting will be on display every day until 11:00 PM. #studiodl #lightingdesign #lichtontwerp #architecture #architectuur #denhaag Commisioned by: Rijksvastgoedbedrijf Tower design: Arcadis Construction: Heijmans Source file impression viewpoint ©Rijksvastgoedbedrijf

Nothing better than seeing sustainability and culture mesh together. The Malaka Art Hall by FLOW81 Architecture Lab is a beautiful reminder that architecture can do so much more than serve a purpose, it can honor its surroundings and tell a story. Our buildings need to seamlessly blend sustainability with cultural innovation, while preserving tradition and meeting modern demands without compromise. It’s a powerful example of what’s possible when design respects both nature and the people it serves. Thoughtful design like this is exactly what the world needs more of. https://lnkd.in/gbeQ9BN2 #sustainability #sustainablearchitecture #futureofwork

Documented in DETAIL 6.2024 Climate and Resources: Het Bosbad Housing in Eindhoven (NL) by GAAGA Circularity, simple reversibility and the desire to create residential space in proximity to the natural environment were the conceptual focus of the housing structure Het Bosbad. About 400 peeled eucalyptus logs provide the design with a striking visual impression. The reuse of these construction components is possible without difficulty. For the design, the Delft-based architecture office Gaaga found inspiration in the Japanese nature therapy method of #ShinrinYoku. Translated literally, the term means “forest bathing”. The property offers ideal preconditions for this purpose. Bordering a large park, it is situated at the northeastern tip of the urban development zone of Bosrijk, west of Eindhoven. According to Gaaga, 85% of building materials can be reused or recycled. Hardwood boards that previously served as embankment were applied as facade siding. The primary structure consists of prefabricated concrete elements with detachable bolt connectors. Our vision of the Chalupkova Bratislava Architecture & Urban Design Competition - organized by Penta Real Estate - in #Bratislava aims to revitalize a neglected brownfield, creating a vibrant community in the continuity of the #SkyPark project by #ZahaHadid Architects. The project is a mixed use combining residential, office and commercial areas. It embraces “porosity,” weaving together varied elements into a harmonious composition that facilitates movement and creates a dynamic interplay of light and gravity. The project showcases as well a high rise building of 115 meters high, making it a pivotal feature on the new skyline. The project prioritizes green mobility and integrates extensive green spaces for #biodiversity and temperature balance. It also explores innovative building methods, including a #hybrid #structure made from #timber and concrete. The hybrid structure features timber frames and cross-laminated timber integrated with concrete layers, ensuring both #sustainability and structural integrity. With a total above-ground floor area of around 130,075 m², it offers ample space for residents and businesses alike. All ground floors are dedicated to retail, ensuring the plot is self-sufficient and attractive to visitors. This expansion of the new city center on the northern bank of the Danube river seamlessly connects to the old historical city center, enriching Bratislava's urban landscape with a beacon of positive change. In countries like Finland, where the forests seem to seamlessly blend with urban spaces, timber is not only a natural building material but an abundant resource. Anttinen Oiva Architects' decision to use mass timber for Stora Enso's new headquarters in Helsinki is a fitting example of embracing this resource. Anyone who has visited the city can attest to the trees practically meeting the edge of the streets. It's particularly exciting to see this firm "eating their own dog food" by constructing their own space out of the material they champion. Timber construction isn’t just a nod to sustainability but a demonstration of confidence in its potential. https://loom.ly/BqjJkvo #timber #sustainability #architecture

Early #Modernism is filled with radical ideas about architecture, living, and industrial materials--often these are combined in a way that anticipates our contemporary focus on embedding #sustainable principles in architecture. Architect Albert Frey's design, working for A. Lawrence Kocher, of the 1931 #AluminaireHouse is such an anticipatory project. I wrote a review of the house and accompanying retrospective of Frey at the #PalmSpringsArtMuseum for #ArchitecturalRecord's May print issue (and it's online now, linked below). Although Frey did not design it according to #circulareconomy thinking, it effectively is a circular house--the original materials and systems have been taken apart and reconstructed at least four times. When someone says you cannot do something--like design a house using #circularity--tell them someone did it in 1931, so what's the big deal? #NotSoMuch

🌍 Standout Architectural Projects of 2024: Shaping the Future of the Built Environment 🌿 2024 has been a transformative year for architecture, with ground-breaking projects pushing the limits of design, sustainability, and innovation. At Locri, we’re proud to be part of an industry that’s building a better, greener future. Here are a few standout architectural projects that are making waves in 2024: 🏙 Rosewood São Paulo, Brazil: This mixed-use vertical city, designed by Jean Nouvel, integrates lush vegetation, terraces, and green spaces to create an urban oasis. Rosewood São Paulo exemplifies how sustainable architecture can enhance urban living while reducing environmental impact through thoughtful, biophilic design. 🌿 Vertical Forest City, Liuzhou, China: Designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, this forest city is a unique solution to China’s pollution challenges. It incorporates thousands of trees and plants to absorb CO2 and produce oxygen, creating a healthier environment. This project paves the way for future cities where nature and modern urban living coexist in harmony. 🏗 Mjøstårnet, Norway: The world's tallest timber building, standing at 85.4 meters, sets a new benchmark in sustainable construction. Built with renewable materials, Mjøstårnet challenges conventional skyscraper construction and demonstrates how timber can be a viable alternative in reducing carbon emissions. These projects aren’t just changing skylines—they’re reshaping how we think about architecture’s role in solving today’s global challenges. By pushing the boundaries of creativity, sustainability, and social impact, these designs set a new standard for the future of our built environment. At Locri, we’re inspired by these trailblazing ideas and are passionate about connecting visionary architects with opportunities that matter. Ready to help shape the future? Let’s talk. #Architecture2024 #SustainableDesign #InnovativeArchitecture #LocriCareers #BuiltEnvironment #FutureCities
