Since a couple of years, the neighbourhood where I live has been undergoing a major transformation. Bars and shops are being renovated, with the interior, but also the facade and shop window, being made trendy. Such as two hairdressers that proudly display "gentlemens" on their facade. But last Saturday I was in a clothing shop that belongs to the well-known department store group El Corte Inglés, where I saw the following. Nothing to say about "Kids". Perfect. But then the menswear department. Translated into English, but indicated in singular, probably because the menswear department is referred to in Spanish with the singular "Hombre". In Spain alone, this fashion retailer is represented in 102 standalones and in 73 stores inside El Corte Inglés. TODAY IN LUXURY. Nordstrom, a well-known luxury department store chain, has announced that it will become a privately owned company. This will happen through a deal where the Nordstrom family will keep just over half (50.1%) of the company, and a Mexican company called El Puerto de Liverpool will own the rest (49.9%). The main reason for this move is that Nordstrom wants to focus on long-term growth without worrying about the pressure of having to report profits every few months. The deal is expected to be finished by the middle of 2025. Jeep is launching a new EV called the 2024 Wagoneer S, which is the its first all-electric car. The car will be available in the U.S. starting in Jan’25 and will cost at least $72k. Jeep is promoting the Wagoneer S with a campaign called “Beautiful Things Can Still Get Dirty,” showing that it can be both luxurious and tough. This move shows that Jeep is focusing more on offering electric luxury vehicles in the future. Puig, a Spanish luxury goods company, bought acquired a majority stake in BYREDO, a Swedish luxury brand, for €1 billion. This acquisition shows that Puig wants to expand its range of brands and become even stronger in the luxury market. The luxury travel market in France is projected to reach $53.6 billion by 2030, driven by rising demand for adventure and cultural experiences among affluent travelers, positioning France as a prime destination for luxury tourism.
