The mission of the Applied Physiology Ph.D. Program in the University of Delaware's College of Health Sciences is to provide advanced training for students in the field of applied physiology with the goal of preparing students for research-based careers. Areas of in-depth study are driven by faculty research and encompass cardiovascular physiology, exercise physiology, musculoskeletal physiology, and neurophysiology. The programmatic emphasis is on the regulation, adaptation, and integration of mechanisms across all levels of biological organization from molecules to organ systems. New knowledge on health, aging, chronic disease, and injury prevention will be generated and disseminated. Along with in-depth, laboratory-based immersion, the mission of the proposed program is to provide high quality classroom-based instruction through a core graduate curriculum, electives, and seminars. Post-Doc Opportunity! 📢 The Multi-Disciplinary Research Training Program in Myocardial Biology at Stanford (#TIMBS) is funded by the National Institutes of Health to bring together post-doctoral fellows and faculty from six complementary areas - #genetics and #genomics, cellular signaling, molecular imaging, #physiology and #phenotyping, cardiac development and #regeneration and outcomes research and population science. Although many possible divisions exist in the spectrum of cardiovascular investigators, one of the most discrete is the division between those researchers interested in blood vessels and those primarily interested in the biology of the heart muscle itself. Myocardial biologists at Stanford are found in diverse departments and divisions within the wider Stanford community and this provides a natural vehicle for multidisciplinary training. Two School of Medicine faculty were among four Duke faculty members elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) on April 30 in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. David Beratan, PhD, R.J. Reynolds Professor of Chemistry, professor of biochemistry, and professor of physics. Beratan is developing theoretical approaches to understand the function of complex molecular and macromolecular systems. Rich Mooney, PhD, George Barth Geller Distinguished Professor for Research in Neurobiology and professor of cell biology. His broad research goal is to understand the neural mechanisms by which experience guides learning, behavior, and perception. https://lnkd.in/etXWkFH3

Yesterday I delivered a workshop for Human Biology & Physiology students in which we explored blood physiology through a mix of interactive case studies and creative model-building activities. After an overview of blood function and structure, students tackled real-life case studies on haematological disorders, building plasticine models to deepen their understanding. It was fantastic to see so much creativity, with students going above and beyond to explore different aspects of blood pathophysiology! Using modeling as a learning tool allowed students to engage more deeply, encouraging critical thinking and making complex topics tangible. Luckily only a little clean-up was needed at the end of the session! #Physiology #HumanBiology #ActiveLearning #Haematology #STEMeducation #CreativeLearning
