I do wonder whether carpet or rug production could come back to Scotland, or the UK in some form. When production moved to Belgium it was different times, wool was cheaper there and production costs lower, but does that really hold in 2024? While never likely to be a massive industry I'm firmly in the "it could happen" camp. Aside from that, I'd love as a country to really focus on green energy. Not necessarily for some eco-warrior or moral viewpoint, but if you think of all the specialist parts and jobs that would be required to support the industry long-term it makes sense. Whether wind, tidal, solar or other forms, I'd like to think we could make strides in the hope of becoming a world leader and cementing a foothold in the export of goods and services related to the market - it could massively enhance the economy and provide skilled and well paid jobs for generations (and fill the void as the oil & gas industry inevitably shrinks). But if we don't act fast we'll miss out.
