Amazon SEO is Not Set-and-Forget As Steven Pope often says, SEO on Amazon isn't something you do once and never look back. Many sellers think product listings are a one-time job, but that's far from the truth! For a "mature" product that's been on the market for 6-12 months, it’s essential to check and update your SEO positioning for main niche keywords every 30/60 days. Here are the 5 steps you can follow to keep your product listings fresh and drive extra traffic: 1️⃣ Use Cerebro (Helium 10) to input your product's ASIN and filter for keywords where you have an organic ranking between 1 and 20. For these keywords, you're converting well and positioned strongly—ensure all your content (visual and textual) mentions them to boost CTR and CVR. 2️⃣ Filter for keywords where you rank organically between 20 and 50. For these keywords, you're on the second half of the first page. If they are relevant, try to improve your positioning by moving them into the title and being more aggressive with ads as a test. 3️⃣ Filter for keywords with an organic ranking >50. If there are keywords with high search volume relevant to your product, and you rank low, it's time to change strategy. Add them to your title and sparingly repeat them in other product listing areas to push them into the top 20. 4️⃣ Every 30/60 days, repeat the process to monitor changes in your positioning. 5️⃣ Bonus → Use the Search Query Performance Report to discover new keywords and determine where in the funnel you need to work to improve positioning and sales. How I approach SEO has drastically changed with the rise of zero-click searches. The days when users clicked through to websites for information are fading fast. Now, over half of all Google searches end without a click, as search engines increasingly deliver answers directly on the results page. This shift isn’t just a trend—it’s a fundamental change in how people interact with the internet. And it’s here to stay. Zero-click searches aren’t the death of SEO; they’re the evolution of it. If you're not optimizing for them, you're already behind. Here’s how I’ve adapted: 1. Optimizing for Featured Snippets and SERP Features: I’ve shifted my focus to creating content that is concise, informative, and directly answers users’ queries. This is crucial for appearing in featured snippets, knowledge panels, and other SERP features. The goal is to ensure that when users ask questions, they get the answer from my content—right there on the search page. 2. Leveraging Schema Markup: Implementing schema markup has become a non-negotiable part of my strategy. Structured data helps search engines understand the context of my content, increasing the likelihood of it being featured in rich results. Whether it's product listings, FAQs, or event details, schema markup makes my content more visible and accessible without requiring a click. 3. Focusing on User Intent: Zero-click searches thrive on satisfying user intent quickly and efficiently. Instead of focusing solely on high-traffic keywords, I now prioritize understanding what the user really wants from their search and crafting content that meets that need immediately. This approach not only improves my chances of being featured in a zero-click scenario but also builds trust and authority with the audience. 4. Creating Content That’s Mobile-Friendly: With the majority of zero-click searches happening on mobile devices, I ensure that my content is optimized for mobile. This includes fast loading times, easy navigation, and concise, bite-sized information that’s easy to consume on a small screen. 5. Embracing New Metrics for Success: I’ve adjusted my KPIs to account for the impact of zero-click searches. Instead of focusing solely on traditional metrics like organic traffic and click-through rates, I now also consider visibility, engagement, and brand awareness. These factors are critical for understanding the real value of appearing in zero-click search results. This happens because stakeholders often don’t understand how it works or its impact on company goals. Improving customer experience Customer experience is one of those aspects of the business that almost all leaders agree is super important. And it can’t be different when 52% of customers say they will switch to a competitor after a single negative impression. But which SEO factors have an impact on it? 1. Broken pages and redirects Broken pages (like 404 or 500 errors) and implementing redirects are usually business priorities. This is because stakeholders are also online users who likely encounter these issues and understand the frustration they cause. Cleaning up redirects, however, is another story. Users don’t see the change, but as SEOs, we know that excessive redirects can hurt a website’s performance. Redirects consume search engines’ crawl budget, dilute page authority and negatively impact speed performance. But how do you explain this in business terms? One of the easiest ways to explain this is with everyday examples, which people can easily relate to and probably have experienced. In the 301 case, imagine you have a shopping list, but when you arrive at your local grocery store, you find the store has moved, adding 20 extra minutes to your shopping trip. Even though you’re “redirected” to the new location, you’re frustrated by the extra step. The same happens with search engine bots when they encounter redirects. Too many redirects can frustrate them, leading to a potential negative impact on your site’s ranking. Similar to a negative customer review. We all know the impact of negative reviews – the next potential customer will see them, and it may influence their decision to buy from you. 2. On-page SEO The concept of optimizing individual webpages to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic is a key one in SEO. It is very similar to merchandising practices in the offline world, and its goal is to keep users and bots engaged with your content. The higher the engagement, the lower the bounce rate, which can improve your rankings (or at least we have a strong reason to believe this after the recent Google documentation leak). Keeping users engaged increases the time spent on the page and the visibility of important elements like CTAs. This is similar to how supermarkets place essential items like bread at the back so customers can see other products as they navigate the store, enhancing product visibility.
