🆕🧑🎓🧑💻 I am very proud to share our recent publication. 📢🌎This research developed smart integrated hybrid renewable systems for small energy communities and applied them to a real system to achieve energy self-sufficiency and promote sustainable decentralized energy generation. Time: 11:00 AM to 12 PM Pacific Time Here is the link to register for the event. https://lnkd.in/gJCMa25g Seminar Abstract: As synchronous generators continue to be replaced by inverter-interfaced renewable energy resources to pave the way for grid decarbonization, the dynamic behavior of the bulk power grid is changing. In the past few years, system operators with high levels of inverter-based resource (IBR) deployment in their footprints have reported increased occurrences of dynamic performance issues and forced oscillations. Such experiences have motivated numerous model-based studies to anticipate stability issues in the evolving grid with high IBR penetration. Advanced time-synchronized measurements (synchrophasors and synchrowaveforms) are key in complementing these studies that may not faithfully recreate interactions among synchronous resources and heterogeneous inverter fleets. In this talk, we will provide a brief overview of how high-resolution time-synchronized measurements have been used to diagnose IBR performance issues with wide-area reliability implications, how they can be effectively used in conjunction with model-based studies, and some future research directions. 

🚨 We are thrilled to announce our new paper on the trade-offs between frequency stability and renewable generation in power systems, focusing on the key role of virtual inertia from solar PV, BESS arbitrage, and operating stability constraints ⚡🌍🔋⚖👇. ⚡📉 In this paper, we investigate key strategies to enhance frequency stability in power systems with high renewable penetration. We assess the impact of virtual inertia and frequency stability constraints on renewable generation and operational costs in the proposed interconnected power systems of Chile, Argentina, and Peru. Our findings highlight the benefits of virtual inertia in reducing RoCoF violations without affecting renewable generation, while also showing the significant cost implications of imposing frequency stability constraints. ⚡📉 Promoting virtual inertia provision has the potential to ensure safe operation in systems with high renewable penetration. Additionally, there are economic benefits from reduced CO2 emissions and maintaining lower marginal costs compared to conventional rotational inertia. 👏🔬 I would like to extend my gratitude to Carlos Bahamonde Díaz for his dedication and collaborative efforts on this paper. I am delighted to announce that the new expanded edition of ’Wind Turbines, Theory and Practice’ is published this week by Cambridge University Press. Around 40% bigger than the first edition, it now includes two substantial chapters on offshore wind technology, plus a final chapter examining wind energy in the wider context of 100% renewable electricity supply (with consideration of solar power and large-scale energy storage). The original material is revised and expanded, and there are many new end-of-chapter examples for use in academic courses. One of the signs of a maturing industry is the appearance of specialized components designed to meet the specific technical and economic requirements of particular applications.
