I would like to recommend this article in ASTM Standardization News. https://lnkd.in/etN68wYY It provides food for thought and good insights into the efforts of ASTM group on “#Digital #Information #in #the #Supply #Chain”. The group has already #delivered #results that will help stakeholders to improve their operations in support of the #smooth and #swift #movement of #Goods as #Cargo from #Seller to #Buyer. I wish to highlight that the ASTM group explicitly want to #build #on #existing #standards available from various sources, and NOT reinvent them. There are already a LOT of very good and #extremely #valuable standards available #to #meet #business #challenges -even complex ones. Unfortunately, many stakeholders or unaware of these standards, or it is not immediately clear how standards can be combined to solve the business challenge at hand. The ASTM group is developing #Recommended #Practices that aim to #provide the #clarity on how combining standards in best practice contexts #solves the #business #challenge covered. Where needed, the ASTM group will fill in gaps to make the standard work together in a seamless fashion in collaboration with the relevant bodies that provide the standards used in support of the recommended practice. 🎯🎯 What is a Plimsoll line? The Plimsoll line is a reference mark located on a ship’s hull that indicates the maximum depth to which the vessel may be safely immersed when loaded with cargo. This depth varies with a ship’s dimensions, type of cargo, time of year, and the water densities encountered in port and at sea. Once these factors have been accounted for, a ship’s captain can determine the appropriate Plimsoll line needed for the voyage: ITF = Tropical Fresh Water T = Tropical F = Fresh Water S = Summer W = Winter WNA = Winter North Atlantic Samuel Plimsoll (1824–1898) was a member of the British Parliament who was concerned with the loss of ships and crews due to vessel overloading. In 1876, he persuaded Parliament to pass the Unseaworthy Ships Bill, which mandated marking a ship's sides with a line that would disappear below the waterline if the ship was overloaded. The line, also known as the Plimsoll mark, is found midship on both the port and starboard hulls of cargo vessels and is still used worldwide by the shipping industry.

COSCO SHIPPING Lines, OOCL and Evergreen shared the Ocean Alliance 2025 East West network, effective from April 2025. The big news is the return of the third Far East - North Europe 'NEU3' loop, bringing the number of loops on this trade back to seven. Two new Asia - North America services appear to be existing COSCO/OOCL services which will become part of the alliance offering without adding extra capacity to the trade. Another novelty is the addition of Yangpu (Hainan) to the rotation of a Transpacific Southwest and an Asia-USEC service. Full details as usual on the #Alphaliner.com website and our newsletter.

Merchant ships have a marking on their hulls known as the Plimsoll line or the Plimsoll mark, which indicates the limit until which ships can be loaded with enough cargo. Internationally, the Plimsoll line on a ship is officially referred to as the International load line. Every type of ship has a different level of floating and he Plimsoll line on a ship generally varies from one vessel to another.
