As a Breast Cancer Survivor it saddens me to read this article. Advocating for better care for Black women involves continued education and awareness. As a healthcare professionals and a patient I know this can be achieved by being informed and empathetic as well as understanding the health challenges and systemic inequities that minorities especially black women face. Some suggestions is being proactive in your healthcare. When you go to appointments prepare questions before your appointments, ensuring that all significant issues are discussed. Additionally, bringing someone along to every appointment can be beneficial. They can assist in making sure nothing is overlooked, as patients we can sometimes feel swamped by the volume of information provided. #healthcare #blackwomenshealth #healthcaredisparities #advocate

This years International Women’s Day theme is #InspireInclusion. We love that because in our #breastcancer space, DBC is fighting for inclusion. Let's recognize that screening is NOT "One Size Fits All". Let's stop excluding women at 40, women over 74, and women with #densebreasts from getting the screening they need. Let's recognize that Indigenous, Black, Asian, and Hispanic women have an earlier peak incidence of breast cancer than white women and need to have access to screening in their 40s. Let's use inclusive science to meet the needs of Canadians. Let's find breast cancer early! #InternationalWomensDay
