Procurement is no longer just about cost savings and supply chain efficiency. It's about strategic value creation, innovation, and resilience. And it's about generating CASH SAVINGS! However, procurement isn't typically trained to think this way. The secret formula for identifying $200k savings on purchased materials that can be implemented by year end. Smart purchasing leaders focus on strategically managing the top 80% of spend. This is not where you will find low hanging fruit for savings. Look at the 20% of spend that’s been neglected (for all the right reasons, of course). We 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 find $200k+ savings in categories or sub-categories with $2M to $20M in spend that aren’t being strategically managed. And some – not all – can be implemented in 4-5 months. For savings implemented 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧, select segments that can be easily resourced (indirect categories are good candidates) 𝗼𝗿 segments where you have a lack of competitive suppliers (resins is a common one). The secret formula is:      Segment with $2M to $20M spend under management      AND is has not been strategically managed      AND (easy to resource OR no competitive suppliers) Now it’s on to implementation.  I’ll share tips on this in future posts.
