This journey is the way: Pre-hab before surgery. Good nutrition. Great intensions and determination. Keep up the activities post-surgery.
Healthcare begins and ends with you. My partial knee replacement journey: 2 hours after surgery, I'm waltzing the ward with a walker. 3 days later, only using crutches because I was told to. 8 days after surgery, taking a forest bath (Hey, I DO have them with me). My PT person says I am waaaaay ahead of the recovery curve. Why? Certainly a great surgeon, PT person and modern medicine. Also, I'm in great health and I was prepared because healthcare begins with me. I worked on my lower body at the gym and at home leading up to surgery. Focused on good nutrition. I have a positive intention and determination to recover good and fast. Now, I'm doing everything post-surgery that I am supposed to. Remember... Medicine can only do so much, and ideally, you avoid even needing it. But if you do need it, you must be THE active part of the solution. Healthcare must always begin and end with you.

Myth buster......................... Nail surgery described as a pleasant experience.......yes pleasant. I like to reflect on all my reviews, both the good and the bad. This is a useful practice to draw out the elements which please a patient and change the elements which need improving. The key elements which this patient valued are COMFORT OPTIONS EXPLANATION This is a great take home for any health care practitioner. What three words would you use? #podiatricsurgery#footsurgery#surgery#podiatry#foothealth#footpain#healthyfeet#footspecialist#diabeticfootcare

The Things We Unlearn 💡 4 weeks post surgery recovery and yes the cabin fever has set in 😊 But I have been pondering 🤔 about what’s taken place in these 4 weeks and what I have dialled back and unlearned. 1 - Independence is great, but you can ask for help and assistance. 2- Asking for help and assistance is not a sign of weakness but a sign of knowing your limitations. 3 - Yes, taking a rest is OK, it’s good for the soul. 4 - Sometimes it can be all about ‘me’ and while I think of others I want to focus on me. 5 - Recovery is more important than anything else in the moment because if I don’t invest in recovery I am no use to myself or others in the longer term. Often we are in such a whirlwind of doing our job, managing ourselves and our family, it becomes the norm. For us to be at our own personal peak, to burn bright, not burn out, we need to unlearn some of the things we do and reset our minds and physical responses. Unlearning isn’t easy, but it is necessary to flourish in our lives.

**Refine Your Reflection** When I started my aesthetic surgery practice, the first thing that came to mind was how I could help my patients not only look good but also feel good about themselves. *Refine Your Reflection* is a commitment to all those patients seeking to enhance their aesthetics in a natural, subtle way, without the "I got something done" look. It’s a commitment to providing the best techniques, technologies, and care to ensure the holistic well-being of every patient. It’s a commitment to working on ourselves daily as a team, constantly upgrading our skills to achieve the best possible results for our patients. In the end, it’s a commitment to transforming their lives so they can be the best version of themselves, inside and out. #refineyourreflection #dranmolchugh #ckbirlahospital #healthcare #aestheticsurgery

Here’s a little story on how NOT to be an expert: Recently my brother needed surgery. However, he has another health condition that could potentially make the surgery life threatening. To address the other issue, his surgeon gave him five very complicated options (you know…medications no one can pronounce and options that included stomach shots, IV drips or some sort of filters in the neck vein, etc.). She gave no opinion on which option was best, saying she would do whatever he chose. To help him make a decision, he polled his siblings and parents (who all except for one have zero medical expertise) for advice. Trust me, this is not how you want to make decisions that may be life or death. While we jokingly offered our opinions, what we really recommended is that my brother go back to his surgeon and make her answer the question of “what would she do if it were her in this situation?” Afterall, she IS the expert. She should have some experience in all the options and outcomes she’s seen on other patients. Whether in healthcare or any professional field, if you’re being hired for your expertise (and almost all of us are), this means you’re expected to use your experience to advise others, not just present options. It’s not about having all the answers, but being an expert is about applying your knowledge to guide decisions. So, if you want to be seen by your clients as an expert, make sure you’re going beyond just listing tactics or strategies your clients could try to giving advice that is based on your personal experience and your assessment of their situation. #Expertise #ProfessionalAdvice #DecisionMaking
