#NovakDjokovic is an incredible athlete - but is he also a bit of an alarmist? Particularly as it pertains to his recent comments about #pickleball & #padel?
He said recently that, "at the club level, #tennis is in danger."
Sure, many courts have been converted. But often, these tennis courts that become temporary or permanent pickleball courts are on public land, meaning municipal planners are surveying it for its use and making a (hopefully) informed decision to switch or convert.
In other words: it's safe to assume that most of the time, when courts are converted, it's because people in that area aren't using it for tennis...Not necessarily that tennis is generally losing ground around the world.
Novak, meanwhile, was worried more so about clubs and spaces more typically dedicated to tennis.
Maybe we're mincing words, but it seems a bit silly to think a game like tennis, which predates even Genghis Khan, would be "endangered" at the club level.
We unpack his statement in this week's issue of The Kitchen Pickleball newsletter.
