Some critics are calling his lawsuit hypocritical, saying he benefits from the same industry practices he’s now challenging, just like other big artists. Others are saying that his approach goes against hip-hop culture, that he should respond to Kendrick Lamar’s success through his music, not legal action. But what many people are overlooking is how much Drake is revealing about how major labels, artists and streaming platforms manipulate things behind the scenes. Whatever his motivation might be, these revelations highlights deeper problems in the music industry. We could be asking tougher questions like… How are these streams counted? Who controls the narrative? How much of these streams/success are real versus manufactured? But, I guess we’re not… Obviously, Drake is looking out for himself, but he’s also exposing shady practices that have been whispered about for years but rarely discussed openly. #musicindustry
