🚨 Addressing the ITT Shortage: Ensuring a Bright Future for Education in England 📚 In the landscape of education, the shortage of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) placements in England is a pressing concern that demands our attention. Did you know that the availability of high-quality ITT placements directly impacts the recruitment and retention of skilled educators? Here's why we need to take action: 🔍 Recent data indicates a significant shortfall in ITT placements across various subject areas and regions in England. This shortage not only hampers the recruitment of new teachers but also places additional strain on existing educators. 📉 The ITT shortage poses a threat to the long-term sustainability of our education system, potentially impacting student outcomes and exacerbating disparities in educational attainment. 💡 How can we help address the ITT shortage in England? Step Into Teaching is a pre-teacher training programme design to support and upskill graduates prior to their teacher training. We work with schools, colleges and MATs to identify local talent and provide them with the foundation to enable them to succeed with their careers in education. We have been able to provide a successful pipeline of graduate talent to some of the biggest ITT providers in England who are able to hand select and support graduates through their teacher training and onto their teaching careers. If you would like to learn more about Step Into Teaching and the benefits of partnering with us to your school, college or MAT then please reach out to us on the link below through our website. https://t.ly/ngsD4 #ITTShortage #EducationInEngland #EmpowerEducators 🍏🎓

Across the education sector, there's a pressing need for passionate graduate talent to step up and embark on the rewarding journey of becoming teachers. Yet, in recent years, we've witnessed a concerning shortage of applicants for teacher training programs—a trend that demands our attention. That's why Step Into Teaching is supporting schools, colleges and MATs across England with graduate talent who are looking to turn their interest in education into a career. Here's why this issue is crucial: 1️⃣ Impact on Education Quality: Teachers are the cornerstone of quality education, shaping the minds and futures of generations to come. The shortage of teacher training applicants can lead to increased class sizes, overworked educators, and compromised learning experiences for students. 2️⃣ Meeting Diverse Needs: With the growing diversity of student populations, there's a need for a diverse cohort of teachers who can effectively meet the needs of all learners. Encouraging a wide range of applicants from various backgrounds and experiences is essential to ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all. 3️⃣ Addressing Subject Shortages: Certain subjects, such as STEM disciplines and special education, face particularly acute shortages of qualified teachers. Recruiting more applicants for teacher training in these critical areas is vital to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in an increasingly complex world. 4️⃣ Promoting Teaching as a Profession: Teaching is not just a job; it's a noble profession that shapes the future of society. By highlighting the intrinsic rewards, professional development opportunities, and positive impact of teaching, we can inspire more individuals to pursue careers in education. I have written to both my local MP and the MP where Derwent Training is based about teachers at independent training providers being excluded from the levelling up premium payment that teachers in FE colleges can claim. The text of my email to both MP’s is below. “I am the CEO at Derwent Training Association based in Malton in your constituency. I write on behalf of myself and my staff who work in a independent training provider. As a professional who has worked since 1992 in the post-16 education sector, starting off as a lecturer, I find this move by the Department of Education to be insulting. In fact, I am fuming. I fully support lecturers in college being eligible for a ‘bonus’ to aid retention. However, excluding lecturers in independent training providers is unfair and an insult. ITPs nationally deliver the greatest volume of apprenticeships, far more than in GFE colleges. Apprenticeship delivery is key to the growth of the UK economy. All lecturers in ITPs take the same teacher training qualifications as people who work in GFE. Indeed most lecturers in ITPs taught for many years in GFE. Be under no illusion, recruitment is a key issue in post-16 education, and for every provider who works in it. This just makes it even harder as it creates a divide that is totally unnecessary. What this decision does is devalue the work of ITPs, several of which are in your constituency. I would be grateful if you can share my concern to the DfE. I look forward to hearing a response on this matter.” https://lnkd.in/eHEQFFpQ
