"The person that I was before would never imagine the person I am today." Today, we'd like to introduce you to Jennilee Houser, a graduate who embodies the uniqueness of the Lumia experience. Jennilee's journey from first responder to coach is a testament to the diverse backgrounds our students bring to the program, and how those experiences enrich our community. Jennilee's story is particularly inspiring because it showcases how coach training can build upon existing skills and open up new possibilities. This kind of transformation is at the heart of what we do at Lumia. Jennilee's background as a first responder gave her a unique perspective on trauma and compassion. Now, through coach training, she's found a way to channel that experience into a new career path that continues to make a difference in people's lives. Whether you're looking to start a new practice, enhance existing skills, or explore new possibilities, Lumia provides the foundation to do so. And with our ICF accreditation, you're gaining a credential recognized worldwide in the coaching industry. Jenilee’s enthusiasm is contagious, and her openness to where coaching will lead her next is exactly the kind of mindset that really excites us! If you, like Jennilee, are ready to transform your life and career, to find your unique shape as a coach, and to join a supportive community of like-minded individuals, we invite you to explore what Lumia has to offer. Thinking about becoming a coach? There’s no better time than today, when you can lock in big savings. Over the past several months, I’ve been in conversation with a lot of you who are coaches or playing the role of a coach either in your organisation or externally. Many of you are trained formally in Coaching while some are credential holders. A lot of you have attended my Masterclass on Effortlessness and the common question most of you had was “how do I make more impact as a coach with less effort?”, and as you might have realised already this has little to do with your Coach training because raising impact is a different game altogether. Today, I’m excited to offer “Coaching for Higher Impact” - a small group experience where we talk solely about how you can create more impact with the people you are coaching with less effort and more ease, in a way that the people you have a conversation with will keep referring clients to you and keep talking about you long after your coach them. That is the agenda and this is a program that lasts for a month and it’s a small group program and there is an interview process. We will need to have a conversation to see if you are a right fit for this or not, to ensure that all the participants have a great experience. So if this is something you want - to create better results in less time for your clients and you want to be a coach about whom your clients can’t stop raving about, reach out and we will schedule a conversation and I’ll share the brochure with you before the conversation, so you’ll have a look at all the details logistics of the program. Now, it’s my immense pleasure to offer this as a bonus for the participants of the program to bring in world renowned coach and very dear friend Wyn Morgan to do a special bonus master class for the participants to help you excel further as you apply these learnings in your life. This one Masterclass itself is worth the entire investment for the program. So reach out or comment if this is something you want to explore. I wish you good luck and speak to you soon. With all my love, Rishi

Bullying coaches and the coaching profession is not okay. I recently completed my second coaching certificate, a demanding six-month journey. While certifications can be a valuable indicator, they don't guarantee a coach's effectiveness. Many coaches have developed their skills through diverse experiences, and not all have followed the same standardized paths. So, does a coaching certificate automatically make someone a great coach? Nope, not at all. It's like having a driver's license – it shows you know the rules, but it doesn't guarantee you're a good driver. And have all coaches gone through the same rigorous training? Not exactly. There's a wide range of training programs out there, and some are more demanding than others. So, while a certificate can be helpful, it's not the be-all and end-all. (A quick shoutout here to Coaches Circle Academy for their outstanding much recommended coaching program). It's essential to consider a coach's overall qualifications, experience, and approach when making a decision. The surge in coaching is due to increased demand for support and the discipline's proven ability to deliver tangible results. When choosing a coach, do your homework. Just as you would research doctors, lawyers, or even plumbers, take the time to understand a coach's qualifications, experience, and approach. Here are some tips for finding the right coach: 👉🏻Check credentials: Verify their certifications and memberships in professional organizations. 👉🏻Read reviews: Look for testimonials from past clients. 👉🏻Schedule a consultation: Meet with the coach to discuss your goals and see if their style aligns with your needs. 👉🏻Trust your gut: Ultimately, you should feel comfortable and confident in your choice. P.S. Remember, coaches are not therapists. If you're dealing with significant emotional challenges or mental health issues,a coach should refer you to a qualified therapist. Do you need the help of a coach? Just finished a conversation with over 150 coaches from around the world with Nicola Boyle and Joanne Brophy from the Association for Coaching (AC). The conversation was called Accept the Fear - Just Coach. What a conversation it was! Some of the fears of people developing as coaches: - Afraid of topics & content in conversations that become 'too' personal or 'too' emotional (the delicate dance of referring to a therapist can sometimes do more harm and create shame) - Nervous about how much to charge and not feeling good enough / ready to charge - Nervous about not following a model of coaching e.g. GROW - Afraid of bringing your full self to the conversations, instead thinking you need to be an impartial, unfeeling questioner - Not feeling good enough to coach or not being good enough to coach certain individuals - Afraid of having opinions or reactions to clients in the sessions - Afraid of a judgement that arose in a conversation when 'you shouldn't have judgements' - Afraid if there's no actions or next steps from a session Such a great group, lots of different perspectives and insights from the breakout groups and peer learning. I shared some examples (image below) of the tensions I manage in my development as a coach as an invitation to find their own grounding and coaching edges. I offered the group 3 questions to shape the conversation in breakouts with their fellow coaches: 1. Who do you want to be as a coach? 2. Why are you coaching? 3. Who are you coaching for? Lots of insights, connection and community. It can be lonely running your coaching practice and the feeling of community through associations like the AC should be on your radar. Supervision should also be part of your regular practice as a coach. This for you and your clients safety. It’s also for your development as you lean into your edges. Doing this with someone that can contain you is profound and has been foundational to a lot of development for me. We’re going to run one of these sessions per quarter and run 2x in one day to cater for timezones. Next is on December 2nd at 9am and 4pm UK times. I love coaching, and I love coaches and I think we’ve important work to do in this world. And I think there’s lots of improvements to the industry we can make, together. Onwards!

I’ll be very blunt today! A lot of people come to me saying: “I can get the same thing in a course too, then why should I invest in a coaching program?” Well, to this I do have very clear answer that I give to them but today I just want to leave it to you to decide which one is actually better. I think this is one debate of course v/s coaching has become even more tough than - “Did the hen come first or the egg”! But I’ll simplify it for you today. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of each one by one. Coaching: - Accountability - Hand-holding - Personalized - Real time 1:1 support - Limited community Courses: - No accountability - Generalized - Huge community - Doubts addressed via group call (if at all) - No individual attention Now, after having invested in a few courses myself and having worked with coaches too, I have to say that Coaching has been a clear winner for me. 🙋♀️ A coach is nothing but an insurance towards your future goals. ♥️ And why do I say so? ✔️Because coaching is always tailored to suit your journey, your business, your needs and goals. ✔️And in coaching you are accountable to someone beyond just yourself. You always have your coach being your biggest cheerleader and supporter. Someone by your side not letting you quit halfway and always pushing your limits. And when personalized coaching is combined with accountability, the likelihood of having positive results multiplies many folds. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t invest in a course. But you should know what would work for you. So, what is your need at the moment?

What is coaching......is it lying down on a coach.......is it a little bit like mentoring......is it therapy? This might help explain...... It's often asked “How does Coaching differ to Mentoring & Therapy?” Besides the normal Wikipedia definitions (https://lnkd.in/eRqvKGCb) one analogy that comes up a lot is comparing them with learning to ride a bike...... 🚵🚵🚵 If you wanted to learn 🚵 but couldn’t, the following professions would address it in different ways… 🚲 The Counsellor/therapist: They are most interested in what has happened in the past that is acting as a barrier to riding your bike, the experiences that are the underlying root cause and working with you on that and how to deal with it. Many of my clients have therapy support alongside their coaching with me, a perfect combination....therapy looking back, and coaching looking forward. 🚲 The Mentor This person has ridden their bike for a long time, they would say, give me your bike and I’ll show you how I ride, tell you how I learned. Watch me and then you try in a similar way. 🚲 The Coach The coach is a different type of partnership, they will be by your side, will highlight and build upon your strengths and weaknesses. The coach works with you to tap into what you know and your resourcefulness, asking you thought-provoking questions and running alongside you, holding you steady. They will encourage and champion you and let go at times when you achieve your momentum. Their job is to get you from where you are now to where you want to be. Hope this helps and wheely makes sense. Coaching in the International Coach Federation model is a simple, realtionship-based process to drive a desired change. If you can do these things for yourself or in your friend group, you don't need coaching. The process is: 1. Identify a current, real-world problem you are facing 2. Activate your parasympathetic nervous system 3. Get a more accurate view of the situation or additional relevant information 4. Activate the right-hemisphere of your brain so you are processing the information through the part of your brain that can make meaning and sense of complex systems 5. Choose a course of action 6. Try the course of action 7. Reflect on the action. Integrate the learning. If it was not successful, repeat steps 2-7 in light of the new learning. The reason coach match is important is that certain people help you activate your parasympathetic nervous system through their embodied presence or your belief in their trustworthiness. This is also why a good friend who is willing to challenge your beliefs can be more effective than a professional coach. Coaching is easy to learn and hard to be great at because 1) getting a more accurate view of the situation or additional relevant information tends to activate the sympathetic nervous system and 2) the modern world deeply distrusts the right-hemisphere's approach to information processing. The difference between "life coaching" and other forms of coaching is that the challenge the client wishes to focus on in "life coaching" is creating a life that works for them as an integrated whole. Clients seek out other forms of coaching to focus on more segregated challenges. The approach to coaching does not change from the coach's perspective. The underlying process is the same. Many coaches need to learn neurodiversity-inclusive coaching explictly because it starts from the assumption that neurodivergence is not a problem to be solved but part of the information required to be understood for the client to solve the problem. The medical, diagnostic approach to neurodivergence sees the neurodivergence itself as the problem to be solved. If you can't find a coach who can help you activate your parasympathetic nervous system and keep it activated for long enough to take action, you would probably benefit from therapy. This is what therapists are trained to do directly that coaches are not trained to do. #Coaching #Neurodiversity #ICFCoaching

Group Coaching 𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 than One-on-One! Is it, though? 🤔 Maybe we should clarify 𝑾𝑯𝑶 it is better for. Because I can tell you right now, group may work best for the coach, but 1:1 is intentional, specific and accountability-based. (𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘭, 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦... 𝘴𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴-𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵-𝘺𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵... 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘢...) Back to the "is group coaching 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭" convo... ⬇ 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: I don't want to go to my doctor and have my concerns addressed in a group setting. I'd rather not listen to Nose-Running Ned describe what pains him, even if my nose is running as well. Coaching is not unlike a medical evaluation coupled with a prescription for action. 🤕 𝘐'𝘮 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦-𝘰𝘯-𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘋𝘰𝘤! So as much as "group is the way to go", I'm leaning in to my one-on-one roster. Personally, I love addressing specific needs, setting intentional action steps for each individual, focusing on a specific client one at a time. There is a place for groups, and 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 - cohorts are amazing - but not at the expense of some 𝐨𝐧𝐞-𝐨𝐧-𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. Do you have a mentor / coach / guide who is providing: ➡ clear action steps and ➡measuring metrics to be sure you aren't just getting the routine "rah-rah" treatment, but are ACTUALLY moving ahead? 𝐈𝐟 𝐧𝐨𝐭, 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐭? Only you know that answer. ✌ Together We Rise! * * * * I was recently 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐬. True story. Sometimes we all forget that if we are not measuring, then we aren't doing it right. My clients must know that 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 is the key... 𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒔 are the norm... and 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 rules the roost. 💪

Today, we're celebrating the incredible journey of one of my clients, SS, who has graciously shared her experiences with our coaching sessions. SS’s story is one of dedication, understanding, and remarkable personal growth. SS described her first foray into coaching as "new and wonderful," appreciating the sincere listening and solution-focused discussions that allowed her to feel validated and understood. Through our sessions, she was able to dive deep into the root causes of her challenges, gaining clarity and direction. A significant challenge for SS was transitioning to home educating her children. Initially overwhelmed, she learned to set realistic goals through our coaching, which helped her take manageable steps towards effective homeschooling. Moreover, SS tackled her struggle with anger management. Our sessions helped her understand and regulate her emotions more effectively, realising that controlling her reactions could lead to better relationships with her children and a more harmonious home environment. Among the techniques we explored, SS found goal setting, creating vision boards, and expressive writing particularly transformative. These tools not only helped her align her daily actions with her long-term aspirations, but also enabled her to monitor her progress and celebrate her successes. Although familiar with expressive writing, SS had postponed integrating it into her daily routine. Our sessions rekindled her confidence in writing as a powerful tool for self-reflection and progress. Now, she actively writes to keep track of her mistakes and victories, continuously renewing her motivation to achieve her goals. SS’s journey is a testament to the potential within all of us to transform our lives. She continues to embrace her expressive writing journey with renewed vigour, inspired by the changes she's already seen in her life. If SS’s story inspires you, imagine what YOU could achieve with dedicated support and guidance. Reach out to explore how coaching can illuminate your path to personal growth and success. support@penandheal.com
